Can I use my hps bulb with a homeade ballast?

Hello all, I have been learning and reading RIU forums for about a month, and I have a question. I made a Ballast out of wood for three CFL lights. I have some cords were you can screw a bulb on the end of it and was wondering if i could just do that with the hps light or if i would have to buy a whole set for it.... Here's the bulb http://www.elights.com/philhpslam25.html and it will be placed straight down, not across. Thanks in advance

no, you need a ballast, capacitor and ignitor for hps

the ballast is a step up transformer that ups 120v or 240v to 400v required to burn the lamp. a light rack is not a ballast .
