Can Non-Cannabis Pollute Garden? And pest question.

First of all; Hi First post here. Finally got satisfactory anonymity set up to post here. On to my question.

So on my balcony there is pollen everywhere. We live on the verge of a forest and also have our own plants, Lavender and such. Whilst I have the understanding cross species pollination with Cannabis is not possible(? Lavender smelling Cannabis Pleeeaase) I am wondering if getting the oh so infectious pollen from other species can stunt my girls growth?

With no scientific basis to back it up I'm thinking pollen maybe share some pistill attachment characteristics across various species; meaning pollen from, for example, Lavender could attach to the girls and cause some sort of reaction so they try to produce seeds. Or something like that. Ok I'm a mathematician, not a botonist

Basically my question boils down to; "Do I need to/should I steralize myself before entering Cannabis garden if I have gotten pollen from other unknown species of plants on me?"

nothing to worry about unless you have wild hemp plants growing about. i'd be more worried about bringing mites and such in from the outside. Welcome to RIU!!

Oh very good. Thanks for the quick reply. When I anyway have your attention and you mentioned mites I have another quick question. I have these animals inhabiting my plants. They're small, maybe 2-3mm, and they fly. Seem to prefer the dirt but I have seen them flying around the leaves. Thing is I haven't noticed any damage to the plants so I don't really mind them. I am however curious as to what they are. Any insight?

Could be fungus gnats.

Could be thrips too.

Any way you can get a close up picture of them. Always best to include pics when discussing plant problems. What color are they? Could be thrips. Google marijuana plant pests images and see if you can id from the photos.

Have people over for 4th of July so a bit difficult to access plants. But I will try. As of now I think they are fungus gnats like Merlot said. Although my little invaders are more round looking than the gnats. Be back with a picture I hope! Little buggers are dififcult to get on picture :/ But I have an idea

Here it is. Not a great picture but maybe consensus can be reached as to the identity of this little bugger(pun intended).

Edit: Observed them some more. Do not seem to care about green. Mainly dirt and around on the floor/pot.

Edit2: From the pictures it seems like it must be fungus gnat? Doesn't resemble anything else posted. Says on Wikipedia they are not harmfull to healthy plants. But I would prefer not to have them. Will letting my soil get thouroughly dried out be enough to kill them?

People use fly paper I believe.

Yeah got some at the store now. But from what I have read the larvae have to be killed with some sort of pesticide. I'll go to the flower store tomorrow and ask for something to kill larvae in my tomatoes

Picks up mosquito bits or dunks. Really anything with the BTI bacteria in it. Non toxic to everything except infect larvae. I prefer the "bits" just sprinkle on the top of soil before watering. Do this once a week till end of grow cause they will come back

Well I'm in Sweden so I'll have to see what they have. Unfortunately don't have most brands of different products that you guys are referring to here. But I'll try to find something with this BTI bacteria in it. Just have to find what it's called in swedish. Thanks for the advice!

Edit: "VectobacG" seems to be an equivelent to mosquito bits in sweden. Hope they have it.

Ok so reporting back. Went to a big flower store. They had this BTI but only one size for almost 100 euro. Asked for help and explained it was for "edibles, such as tomatoes and lemons". She showed me "pyretal". Said explicitly it was poisonous to "water based organism" which I assumed meant humans. She said if I use it now and wait a few weeks it will have exited the plants system and the tomatoes be safe to eat. I'm assuming she knows what she's talking about. Put a few drops in water and watered the girls. Was careful not to get any one the leaves or stems(the bugs aren't on them). They have about +5 weeks to harvest so figure it should be fine by then. But when I get money I'll get the VectobacG. These to plants I'll try not to share too much and if I do say that I used this chemical. Think they'll be fine but don't want to hurt anyone :/
