I have a 490 cfm inline I am going to use it to filter air in two small sized rooms using a y connect and two charcoal filters. I am ordering a muffler for the exhaust and am using insulated ducting. My problem is I can still hear the fan inside. So instead of building a box I have been thinking of ways to silence it and spend as little as possible. I was thinking since I already have one i could put insulation inside of a rubbermaid tub and cut holes on each side for the ducts. I am worried about heat or harming the fan or whatever. Obviously I would use insulation that is fireproof. I read as long as there is air traveling through the fan it is okay. Is that true? Also the fan will be on 24/7 if that matters.
