Hey guys, i have no money right now and cant even afford a 5 dollar bag of MG soil, i have a bag of perlite though. can i start my seed in a small small cup of pure perlite? or would it be better to get some soil from outside and mix it with perlite?

i wouldnt use it as a soil, but you can use it as a hydro medium. look up "hempy buckets" on this site, many people use 100% perlite with good results.

yea but im not going hydro, i only have like 120 watts of cfls and im just trying to do a small grow, more importantly cheap. i guess ill just grab some outside soil for now.

the thing is, the seed is germinating. so i need something temporary but now.

hempy buckets are cheap, in fact they are free if you have a bucket or two lying around. its the simplest hydro method there is.

if this is what you have then get your soil from the outside put it in a roasting pan and cook it in a 250 degree oven for an hour or two to sterilize it cool it down and mix it with your pearlight

ok, are there certain areas outside i should get the soil from, like near a pond or near some trees? also should i avoid things like rocks in the soil? sticks?

avoid rocks and sticks , find a spot the grass or vegetation is nice and healthy dig down removing the veg and most roots and collect it there

You can start and finish with pure Pearlite..but like the man say don't use Miracle Grow Brand. I have had good fortune with Schultz but they recently quit making it. Still a few places around who have it. Hempy buckets are the only way to fly.
