Can you clone with a hps light

i have a 150 watt hps i can get about 3-5 inches from the humidity dome and i think it's brighter than any T5........even though it's the wrong spectrum......... just saying I know LOL but could it be done or will I lose my clones I plan on cutting about 40 so I really dont want to lose them...........THANKS FOR THE HELP GUY'S

na you could still do it. i'd keep it farther than 3-5 inches though.

I havent done any testing with this, so please take it with a grain of salt.

I dont think any HID light is good for clones or seedlings, and t5's really arent that expensive. I mean, our ladies really arent use to getting that much direct light (they usually get some shade, or cloudy weather, etc.). Remember that you can light damage plants (as funny as that sounds lol).

But thats just my opinion

I'm currently cloning under my MH but I have the plants like 3 feet from the light. I've got root nubs coming in - so yes.... it works.

about 16 inches should not hurt anything
