you want to use them as soon as your sure there fully colonized, or you need to pop them bad boys in the fridge, you can basically pause them in the fridge for at least a month??? i've never done it so some one who has should chime in.

but yea you can leave them in there to long, they could dry out, they could begin pinning in the jars(still useable), they could get contamed from stale myc piss.. pop em in the fridge if your not ready for them

listen to darth.

i have never had to do this.
and I suggest trying to steer as far away as possible from keeping your cakes in the jars for too long.
let them colonize 100%
let them consolidate for 1-5 days after colonization
then they SHOULD be birthed.
if you need to wait longer (which is not recommended)
pop em in the fridge like darth said .

Darth is correct. Myc will dry out due to the moisture you gave when mixing your substrate prior to sterilizing. What size jars are you using? I have used 1 pint jars and they NEVER fully colonize, its too much substrate and by longer you let it sit, contams are finding their dirty fucked up little fingers into your poor innocent substrate!!!!

Was given 12 free jars, dude said they where sitting in his closet for a few months.

Went to open them half of them where contaminated the rest where really dried out.
Tried to see if they would colonize but nothing happened, It got really moldy after a week (pretty sure i placed a cake in there that was cont.)

Once the jars are fairly white, put them in there permanent resting spot to colonize. Don't over do the time in the jars, bad things will happen! :(

well dont say never, i prefer pint jars, average of two ounces per cake!

but i also lower my moisture content and then use extra spore solution, so it colonizes from more innoculation points, half pint jars are faster for sure though...

if you have only have pint jars you can just fill them half way and bam half pint cakes ;)

I've never actually tried it, just follow the tek.
Problem being they don't grow to their full potential.
But I have had cakes start to pin while still in the jar.
