Cancer patient getting started

Hey folks. I have a relative living in central Alberta who has been diagnosed with cancer and is considering the use of medical marijuana. She's older and not computer savvy so I offered to help (although I know very little about the Canadian system). Just wondering what you folks would recommend to get her started?

Thanks in advance for any info

Does either her GP or oncologist know about the MMAR and MMPR system? If not, you might consider trying to get her to one.

Finding a Doctor that is willing to prescribe Cannabis is the first step and also the most difficult. I believe Health Canada is no longer taking new applications under the MMAR as of October 1st. Anyone applying now would fall under the MMPR. That means She would have to buy from PPS, which is the only legal source at the moment.

Go to Health Canada's website, all the details are listed there.

Thank you so much for the help! I will check out the site and go from there. Assuming she can find a doc and get a script, how long does it take to process?

Also, I'm a caregiver in Michigan and I have some genetics that I would love for her to try (25% cbd, 1% thc) as it has done wonders for my patients. Does this program offer anything similar as far as high cbd meds to your knowledge?

Under the MMAR the process was slow. With the new program, as soon as you have a prescription, you can go to a Licensed Producer and purchase Meds. The Meds have to be mailed to the purchaser, but the whole process should be a lot faster than the old program.

Google "CanniMed" they are the distribution arm of PPS. I think the highest CBD strain they have is 9%THC, 9%CBD. I'm not sure if their product is even available yet though, they just got their LP license.

Your kind of in limbo right now. No licenses will be granted under the old model and there is no product in the new one. My only suggestion would be to contact a company like donoharmclinic.com out of Kelowna BC. They might be able to give you better info. best wishes JAS

I would start with the do no harm clinic. That is where the prescription will come from to start the process. They are easy to find, just google it ando from there. They are very nice people there.

good luck

Also, just FYI, it's pretty well known that PPS' weed is terrible. Honestly I would have to suggest she find an underground source for the meds once she has her card, the quality will be substantially better.

They have a 50/50 CBD strain, no pure CBD. The new system up here is a joke. There are CBD strains at the clubs around Vancouver and Victoria and elsewhere too. The compassion clubs in these areas - some are willing to do mail order with a proper Dr. recommendation. What is she considering it for? Symptom relief or attempted cure? The links to the only provider so far are already provided. I think the compassion clubs are a viable if not completely legal option.

Btw the American markets for this are years ahead of the Canadian. It used to be the opposite. No longer even close to the case.

Geez, thanks for chiming in with a smart ass comment. That's exactly what I was hoping for. She is elderly and has cancer. She doesn't know where to begin. I live In Michigan and am not at all familiar with the Canadian medical marijuana system. Thus the op. If you have nothing constructive to add shut your fucking pie hole.
hehe You should have taken your own advice before trolling my thread after you got off work on the corner. Next time shut your retarded chimp mouth and go back to blowing dudes on some Detroit street corner. :hump:

I never thought I would say this..... Skype the do no harm clinic get the perscription and get your friend to the USA... Right now Canadain patients rights freedoms and liberties are being challenged by our Stephan hitler conservative gov... So what this means is unless your friend has enough cash on hand to by there meds from a legal producer... If not than they have the option to grow for themselves.... But that would be breaking the law and what medical patients are fighting for right now...
