I'm coming across a lot of money soon and I need to figure out which subs are the best. I'm getting 2 10" or 2 12" and I want to know which brands are the best at delivering the wobwobwobs.

i really like jl audio's subs. i dont really have much insight on amps, but if heard a lot of different brand subs and the cleanest imo is jl and memphis mojos.

I had two eclipse 12" 1500 watt subs and the matching eclipse amp rated at 1200 watts and that shook my jeep to pieces... well, that and the off-road burn turns at speed. I also had 3 jl w-6 12" subs and a 2000 watt amp for about a week... that was just too loud and i didn't want to blow my rear window out, so i traded for the eclipse set-up... best trade ever, imo.

If you're coming across money, Jackhammer. 24" square or 22"round, weighs over 369 lbs. too bad the cheapest is 12 grand.

I have 2 infinity reference 12's with a cheap ass lightning audio 760 watt amp for each speaker. pretty fuckin loud too. Got the speakers buy one get one free from crutchfield

I think it depends on what you listen to for music. If you like a heavy metal, then id go for two 10's in a sealed enclosure. The sealed will not be quite as efficient as a ported box, but the bass kicks will be tighter and the 10" subs will have a slightly faster response curve.

If you listen to rap, then youll be great with a couple 12's in a ported box. The ported box will use the amps power more efficiently and produce some nice booming bass notes for ya.

Personally I think peeps get a little carried away with the "my amp is bigger than yours" shit. As long as I can cruise down the highway with my windows down, and not be able to really hear all the fucking motorcycles, then im good, and dont really need any more than that.

Just make sure your subs are rated to what your amp is pushing or kaboom

do your research, critchfield is pretty darn good IMO. check reviews and even check out audiophile forums. Bigger subs are mostly for the big booms, while smaller will deliver the quick hits better. my 12's are in sealed acrylic boxes and get the job done over a wide range of music. Box material also plays a big factor.

I know this thread is old. Put to the OP. if you were still looking for a system I could recommend ou to some top quality stuff. Just depends on your total budget. But to name a few brands.
-soundquebed
-sundown audio
-fi audio
-American bass
-obsidian audio.
-crescendo amps
All these brands make quality equipment. So for anyone that's looking for a system this is a good list to start from. I'm personally about to do an install in a truck bed. I'll be using 6 18" obsidian subs with 1 crescendo 3500d. I'll have to do a pretty edgy electrical upgrade including my alternator and few other upgrades.

If anyone needs help building or designing a box just pm me.

I have 2 JL 10w6's powered by a slash series 500/1.... shit hits ridiculously hard, especially for 10's. I have a g35 and can't fit 12's in there without taking up the entire trunk so I really wanted to squeeze as much bass in there that I could. I also have the JL bass knob which I definitely recommend... I literally adjust my bass for each song. Also, get Dynamat or something similar if you plan on investing in expensive subs. Literally EVERYTHING will start to rattle and drive you insane.

I also have a Kenwood double DIN, Alpine Type R components and coaxials for the front stage. Powered by a MRX-F65

Jl and kicker are both quality companies no doubt. And not to hate on either of the systems, but if it were my money I'd buy something else. Like most items these days, the logo has a big impact on the price, including car audio. To me Jl audio and kicker products are over priced. Especially kicker amps. Too many companies claim their products do more than what they really can. And if the brands are legibly rated, they're usually over priced.
You basically have to look into the car audio world and see what the competitors are running. And though it may seem those 'competitor products' are expensive, that's just a Mis conception. The companies like Fi audio do make some expensive woofers ($750 for an 18") but they also make lower end models for the modest bass head. And those lower end mods are without a doubt impressive.
Obsidian audio is a relatively new company (branched from sundown audio) but they make good quality products for cheap !!! That's why I'm going with them. Just can't beat the price.

The most important thing that needs to be said though is this. The box itself is the most important factor when building a system.NEVER BUY A PREFAB BOX!!! Can't stress that enough. Without a well designed box for your subs, you'll just get mediocre results.
