carbon filter still smell a sweet smell in room!!

ive got 5 plants at day 28 in veg their in a closet ive got carbon filter set up its blowing the air back into my bedroom and i can smell the plants a little when i go into my bedroom is that normal? or have i done somethin wrong? just want to sort it out before they go into flowering pls help:wall:

My advise is that you should make sure their are no holes or leaks around the ducting so that all the air is sucked out only from the filter.

I too have the fans extracting air out to the same bedroom thay the cabinet is in, all I can smell is a slightly sweet ceder smell I think thats becaus eof the carbon filter, but I keep the window open to allow for the fresh air to come in. Let me know how you get on.

Try turning the filter over... Also, make sure the room is sealed... Otherwise you might just want to circulate the grow air internally through the filter.

sweet smell is better than dank smell but i get what your saying and i would have to agree but! if the can is older than 6 months change it out if not re-trace your steps so far as how big and what kind you know all that stuff....

Certain filters will last a couple of years bud.

I have two DIY carbon filters for my cabinet, and a mini DIY scrubber for my PC case box too, and yeah, with everything pretty much sealed up perfectly, I still got a bit of a funky smell in my room. It was a million times less than if there was no filter at all, but just enough that my girlfriend could smell it a little. I of course didn't really notice at all, cause I'm always in here. Anyway, got one of those Glade plug in things, and theres no "offensive" odor at all now, I have it on its lowest setting and the "vegitation" scent is gone completly.... replaced by "ocean breeze" or something.

i have 2 pc fans to for a vent and intake...should i put the intake towards the bottom and the vent up top?

Effective treatment requires the exchange of air in the growing area in a period of 5 minutes. Compute your requirements by multiplying the width times the length times the height of your growing area to obtain the total cubic feet. Divide this number by 5 to determine the proper filter size needed.

For example, if your growing area is 8 feet long by 8 feet wide by 8 feet tall, it contains a total of 512 cubic feet. To treat this area in five minutes, you would need to use a fan with a CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating of approximately 102.

trust me on this one... it takes allot of research and allot of time to find out the best way to grow... and you cant believe everything you read or hear.. investigate for yourself to find out the real facts.. search bar is the best friend out there but the post also can help.. i hope the previous post answered your question

yea definitely did...along with another thread about a DIY Carbon Filter from walmart. got me temp and humidity right were i want them!:clap:

Funny this is my biggest prob. Smell. All I can say is this. once you get it dialed in dont even breathe on the setup.

This is why. I had it setup. a 6 in gro brite. A nice inline 430 cfm. A duct booster. A euro hood. It all ran on one circuit. I never turned the duct booster on but it worked as sort of an extension.

I had the filter on the outside though. i heard it was better inside. so I got the nscecary cables and so on and rigged it to have the filter inside the tent hanging from the tent poles. Looked real good. I had the duct booster lying on the ground. I planned to hook it up to an intake. So i fired it up.

And I got smell! WTF! I checked everything. lame. I could not fig out why. So on a whim I put the duct booster back in front of the charcoal filter. SOunds stupid but I tried it. And I got less smell. Like a lot less smell. WTF! Maybe the propleller slowedf down the porcess a little and that worked. Like the big fan was pulling too much. In fact I thin k that what it is. That the htg grobrite is overrated in cfm.

So I left it. Then I got the nifty idea that now I had only 3 plants instead of 12. So i took down the duct fan off the filter and hooked it up to the intake. Cool intake! lol. NO< not cool.lol

I came home form work and found a ton of smell. WTF! Dammit.

I tried it with the filter on the outside and still smell. The stupid filter is defective or well not to be mean cuz i dont think they send me a better one but it is not as good for cfm as it says it is. Cuz I bought the right fan,

So anyway i got another cheap 4 in filter that I might put on the exhaust. That way I have 2 filters. Lol.

Anyway. Maybe If I call this company I can talk about it. Lol, I am legal. Not sure how I say "it dont keep weed" in.

I wonder are they rated to keep marijauna smells out?

Anyway I am RAMBLING> sorry just toked.:)

Even I have tiny holes in my ducting caused from bending as long as it passes through the CO2 filter it isnt the problem in my opinion you should consider purchasing a new decent quality CO2 filter but first check your setup thoroughly.

If the holes are between the filter and the exhaust than there is a decent chance you're picking up straight funky unfiltered air and blowing it out. Just put duct tape on the holes so you can eliminate that as a possible problem.

I'm wondering if turning the filter around caused your problem? Correct me if I'm wrong, but at first you were blowing air through it, then you turned it around to sucked the air through it. So at first all of the funky air was hitting the inside of the filter first. Then you turned it around so that the side of the filter that was exposed to the funky unfiltered air is now the last piece of filter to touch the air?

Does that makes sense? Like you're polluting the air with the side of the filter you already got dirty since you turned it around.

thats the smartest thing ive heard you say yet homer lol.. it takes a real stoner to figure that one out.. but you do make total sence to me bud

he collected the smell on one side of the filter.. then turned the filter around and shoved that smell back into the air

very good suggestion... and one way to do this is to buy 4" or 6" flanges that have a tin plate with a lip to your size ducting that way your ducting fits right over the flange and you can get a clamp and put on it for added seal ... alotta ppl just cut a hole in their box and run their ducting through,,, they wouldn't believe the amount of air/smell that comes out if it's not sealed tightly :)
