Hello,
Im planning to start growing some plants, but im a little concerned about the smell because i live in an apartment.
I want to make my own carbon filter and i wanted to ask if these will do the trick : LINK
And do i have to lead the pipe outside?
Also could You give me some less smelly strains?

Thank You.:-P

Naw man get something better then that, just go on ebay or amazon if you wanna go cheap and search carbon filter.Living in an apartment, personally I would not cheap out on the fan/filter because you have a fuck pile of people that could potentially bust you at any time.

As for less smelly strains, northern lights is one that doesnt have too much funk....dont get me wrong though, your place will still stink to high heavens without a filter.

No and no. I have built my own carbon filter and it did not work properly. Just buy a CAN filter and recirculate the air. It would work best in a tent situation. Less smelly strains. Well millennium is one of the least smelly, also bogglegum, and NL. Good luck!

I've been using the same carbon filter for over 2 years now and it still covers up the smell. The exhaust smells like silicone caulk now but what do I care as long as it doesn't smell like herb in the driveway. The point is you get a lot of bang for your buck from a commercial carbon filter and it's completely worth the investment when you consider a random person walking by your house could smell the plants if you use a DIY filter unit and is that worth having cops called on you?

4lomo is right, use the 70-120€ on a prober can filter and ventilation

sumthing like this:

tho a 5" or maybe even as small as a 4" set could work depending on your temperatures and light etc.

if you only grow with CFLs or LED you might get away with a small 4" axial ventilation

cheap, but a carbon filter is a must IMO I grow 2-4 plant`s at the time in a apartment, fist time I also had two and no filter, believe me its wort the investment, they WILL ! stink once they flower, imagine, hopefully +4oz of fresh Bud`s plus leaf`s 24/7 in your apartment, my filter cleared it in less the two hours, so I could sleep in there agin, and did`t had to worry about neigbours !

you can buy active carbon in buckets online but the cost is about the same as a filter, once you have the filter you could maybe buy that next time to refill it, I believe you could fill a filter +5 times with a 10kg bucket of carbon depending on size of filter of course, filters last roughly a year of running (I don't run mine in Veg. fist add it when I begin to smell em) also high humidity is`t the best for the carbon, so will make it last less time if you have a high RH

some fish/pet shops sell carbon aswell and some hard wear stores have them replacement filters for cooker ventilations (much like the one in your link) but its not as effective as the kind used in the can filters or so I have been told/hear/read

no problem and good call, the little money spend is well wort it, my two plants made the hole 90 sq. M. apartment stink like cat piss/weed, so bad in the end that I had problems falling a sleep, when I came home and open the front door I was meat by a "wall" of smell hitting me hard and I also began to worry about neighbors, not them directly beside me as they are cool, no I began to worry about them on the floors below me, but as I said, two hours running my new filter and 99,9% of the smell was gone and I could finally catch up some well needed sleep

p.s.

beside odor control a ventilation also provide your plants with fresh air/co2 (very important for a healthy grow) and can also help you keep your temperatures under control, IMO is a vent/filter as important as the light and the grow medium cant really do with out any of em ..
