CBD-infused products are one of the fastest-growing markets in the cannabis sector. Whether it's skincare products, chocolates, gummies, or drinks, the stylish CBD product trend has infused its way into every aspect of the marketplace. CBD has become so popular that people have implemented it into their sacred morning coffee routines. But, if caffeine is a stimulant drug and contributes to the alertness we experience after our morning cup of brew, does it mix well with the soothing effects of CBD?

What is CBD?
Along with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (cannabidiol) is one of the predominant chemical compounds within cannabis. CBD is derived from either hemp or cannabis and is not psychoactive. Hemp and cannabis are two varieties of the C. Sativa plant that contain both CBD and THC. Hemp contains more CBD, making it a more lucrative and appealing option to manufacturers, and cannabis contains more THC.

The cannabinoid receptors in our bodies interact with both CBD and THC. CBD impacts non-cannabinoid chemicals such as dopamine, the chemical that secretes a sense of reward and pleasure and influences our ability to think and plan. The effects of CBD are person-specific, but anecdotal evidence reveals that generally, smaller doses of CBD act as a stimulant and bring about energy and alertness (similar to caffeine). Users reported adverse reactions like drowsiness or fatigue with higher dosages of CBD; however, it's imperative to keep in mind that everyone's body and tolerance are different. As with any drug, CBD can include some unfortunate side effects like nausea and lethargy; however, the overwhelming praise from users surrounding CBD's "calming" effects lead many to believe it could combat the jitters and anxiety associated with caffeine intake.

CBD in Coffee:
Coffee is the primary source of dietary caffeine consumption. According to the International Coffee Organization, Coffee lovers consume over 1.6 billion cups of coffee every day, but a cure for the harsh side effects is left desired. A possible solution, CBD in coffee. Although the research surrounding the exact reactions between CBD and caffeine is limited, anecdotal evidence from users claims the CBD latte is safe and beneficial. Many users have reported CBD and caffeine to work well together because of the similar activation timeframes. It takes approximately 30-60 minutes to feel the effects of caffeine and CBD. In terms of timing, these two work simultaneously.

Users have accredited CBD-infused coffee as the perfect latte, which seems counterintuitive. People developing this new morning routine have reported higher senses of concentration, more optimistic attitudes, alert and calmer demeanors, and no increased heart rate, shakes, or anxiety. This new brew has also contributed to a better night's sleep in some cases simply due to the absence of the anxious side effects from caffeine alone. It seems the CBD latte combines the benefits of both caffeine and CBD while eradicating unwanted reactions.

The data involving CBD and caffeine's interaction isn't as strong, but that's changing as CBD is becoming more prevalent in the food industry. As always, start with smaller doses and be informed about the quality of your CBD.

Steep Hill Tips for Buying CBD Coffee Products:

· Always request the test results from the manufacture on the final product. Or you can test with a reputable ISO accredited lab, such as Steep Hill.

· Remember oil and water don’t mix well, so the best way to properly dose and ensure you’re getting the full benefit from CBD is to use a Nano encapsulated powder or product containing this type of infusion. This will allow for the best water solubility of CBD and the biggest bang for your buck for your morning coffee.
