The rule of numb is 100 w for the first plan and 50 w for ever plant thereafter.
for the seedling one 26 w 6500k is good. Just make sure it close to the light - one to two inches away.
Whats your setup?

I start with ONE bulb, and add the other as needed. PLENTY of light for young un's.

I grow two of these
under just one of those setups and any ambient light that filters in in the daytime.

I have 5 seedlings (few days above soil) under 4 26w cfls. Once they get a bit bigger im putting them under my HPS. But the cfls are working great 4 me right now at about 2-3 inches away

Fuckin love CFLs!! They are great for small spaces. Mother clone veg chambers. Even good for stud stables. Here's my mothers in a box with two CFLs and small ass fan.IMG_20130818_235129.jpg those are one gallon pots. Two mothers and two small bubble cloners.:weed:

I usually put each of my seedlings under a single 24watt 6400k cfl on the bottom of my tent for around 2 weeks or until I'm happy they can handle a transplant and onto the hps. Cfls are good for that and maybe a few inches of growth but out of that and their just very ineffective. I always keep 1-2 inches off seedlings with fan blowing on em and have never had a problem yet.

You can grow just as potent of grass with CFL as any other light source. You take a hit in time and quantity and it isn't real efficient and can be cluttered. BUT, when you can grow a quarter lb every few months in a small box and your electricity bill only goes up 15 bucks, that is the kind of inefficiency and mess many of us can live with.

Long live CFL... people can debate the if and or but's, but it get's the job done.

Use a y splitter as shown above and use two 26 watts with beer can reflectors or a large clamp reflector. Can grow a decent 1 foot plant with just that in a gallon of soil.

For a young seedling a single cfl will do for now, keep it close so the plant does not stretch. If it is too close you will see that in the plant. Baby I keep it 3 inches off, after a week 2 inches and 1 inch after that.
