cfl or hps?

Im tired of trying to keep up with lumens and watts and all that. which kind is recommended by all of you experts here on RIU? floresents have been working fine for a few small plants but im looking to step it up a little.

High pressure sodium lamp would be a great step up.

It's difficult, if not irresponsible, to just blindly rubber stamp an endorsement for HPS without knowing anything about what you are doing now or what you want to do in the future. Give us more information on what you're looking to do and you'll get more detailed information in return.

You want to veg with fluoros with around 6500 to 7500k color spectrum. The reason is your nodes will be closer together and will result in tighter buds when u change to HPS for flowering. HPS lights will cause your plant to stretch so u want the shortest bushiest plant possible at the start of flower.

Another debate over CFL vs HID

I think it all comes down to personal preference.

You can go with either.

In my opinion, HID are better hands down.

I started with cfl's. An although the plants were more bushy, They took longer to grow and took more work due to constantly having to move the lights.

Once I went to Metal halide and HPS i was astonished at the speed of growth.

It is up to you and depends on your budget.

Shit do you realy need to ask the question.The most economicle is without a dought a 600 hps.But if you are going for a light of this watt then you will need a good exaust fan infact you will need one with any intence lighting.If you are only wanting to grow about 3 plants that will produce about a ounce per plant you could go for the 250 hps.But don't just dissgard the cfl's they have there place in every grow great for keeping clones on ice till the grow that is on the flower period is over.By growing in this way you will have a new crop alot faster because the plants are normaly ready to be flowered after the plants that are in on flower have done.This way you will have a crop every 8 week.
