Cheap HID bulbs

I ordered a mh/hps kit off ebay,it came with a HPS bulb and I bought the cheapest MH bulb off ebay also. Do these cheap bulbs work? If I wanted to get better ones would the 400 watt mh and HPS bulbs(sylania) from lowes work? Or do I need some special growing type HID. I know they make ones that are better for growing but I'm trying to get away without spending 60 bucks a bulb. Baisicly I'm wondering if I could snach one from lowes and use the cheapys as back ups incase one pops. Thanks
