Got it all for about $120... running two 75w Fluorescent Grow Lights from Wal-Mart, four 4 ft.40w fluorescent grow lights, a 50w HPS and a 75w Grow Light bulb from wal-mart in the clamp, FoxFarm Ocean Forest soil/MiracleGro Organic Potting Soil.

This is my first grow, so feel free to give me a few tips if you have them. Thinking about running 18/6.... plants at 4 weeks but were stunted because I had to keep them in my trunk for a few random reasons for about 5 days. Let me know what you think.

Also, anyone know any good seed sites?

50w HPS, and 310 fluorescent watts. So 360. I have another 150 and 70w HPS I'm still trying to get a ballast for.... do you think I'm using too much light as it is? idk it just seems like a lot to me regardless of whether I'm only using 360 watts.

Doesn't really seem like too much light. You want around 400 total watts. That's plenty of light to grow 4-5 medium-sized plants. The problem with your multiple bulbs is that heat may become a serious issue. You want to shoot for 80 degrees with the lights on, with 85 being the max temp for productive growth. If you can get it down into the 70's, even better. The nice thing about a single bulb is that it's easier to vent away the heat.

hmm yeah, I thought about that but never really payed it any attention. I guess I could just get a fan?

you need more light dude, looks like you could make it nice but with such small weak lights its going to take forever to grow

word
how much do you normally yield on a plant? I'm trying to get at least a couple ounces but idk if I'm gonna get there what would you recommend in lighting? I wanted to go with a 1000w MH/HPS conversion bulb but it would've been too expensive.

If you do a good job as a grower you can expect roughly an ounce per foot, per plant. That 580W sounds nice, but you need to do a dry run and have all of those lights running at once for at least a few hours to get an idea how hot your space will be. Simply throwing a fan in there might not cut it. You may need to use an inline fan with some ducting so you can vent the heat away from your grow space, othererwise you only be circulating hot air.

This is all very good advice you're getting from cr8z13. I've been growing for a while and I even learned something. Averaging an ounce per foot is almost exactly what you can achieve but I had never thought about it in those terms. I was always thinking in g per watt or lumen. I grow in a walk-in closet just a little bigger than yours and grow tall plants (4-5 feet) with a 400 watt HPS and get 4-5 oz each plant. Can't do more than six plants at a time like that though.

But the important thing in your case is whether you can keep the closet door open when the lights are on. As I said my closet is bigger and with 400 watt HPS without the door open you need some serious fans and ducting through the walls. But I'm a tightwad so I just time the lights so I can be there to open and close the door when needed. I just use two box fans to exchange the air through the doorway as much as possible and temps are no prob at all. But if the door stays closed it becomes a sauna in there quick. So you definitely need to consider your ventilation needs.
