So I've just finished getting my whole grow setup together. Well, not entirely true, since I'm sure I'll still buy more stuff for it over the next few months, but I've got the necessities.
I have an area by my window for vegging, in which I built a little shelf to put my plants and hang some CFLs. I have two lamps, one with a reflector and both with Y-spliiters in them so I'll have 4x26w total of CFL. It was also obviously get plenty of sunlight on clear days here in San Francisco - luckily the rainy seasons ending. I also have a little bit of panda film hanging over the same bar I have the lights on. This is a great little tent for it. It reflects the sunlight right on to the plants when the sun is out, being angled just a bit helps even more. It also reflects the light from the CFLs at night, which I fold the flap over it covers both sides. That helps to keep from having a huge ass light glowing in my window during the night, or have it glowing into my room. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. Very simple but I think it really does a good job with the elements I have. The only problem will be positioning the CFLs as close to the plants as possible without blocking any sunlight.
At the moment I have incandescent lights in my veg area to warm up my germinating seeds and little seedlings. I had been searching the forums for cheap heating solutions as it gets chilly here at night. With the word heat in the search I kept getting stuff about too much heat from lights, and realized a couple incandescents would be perfect for heating up a small area, with the bonus of giving light to the seedlings once they need it.
My flowering area is in my closet, so I can get it dark at night. I've got a 250w HPS (its a combo with MH). I lined the walls with panda film, and with the depth at only 1.5 ft it reflects quite well onto my plant. It's about 3 feet wide or a bit more, so I'm hoping to fit three plants in there. It might be a little tight, but if I hang the fan from the same bar I have the light on I think I can do it. Aside from venting around the panda film curtain I have Hanging in front, air also can go out a hole in the top up into the shelf area of my closet. I leave the door open enough for air to get in and out, without letting any direct light shine on the sides of the curtain. Heat hasn't been bad (except the first day when my fan was at the bottom, and top leaves got a little burnt). My thermometer said the max was about 86 (which was when my door was mostly closed) and usually stays about 80 during the day. It sometimes drops into the 60s on cold nights in there.
I'm hoping the cold temperature in my window at night won't be a huge problem. I'm ok with it slowing the growth, since my vegging plants will have to wait until the closet is free to be flowered anyway. I'm hoping it won't ever drop below 60, but that glass doesn't keep much heat in.
I hope you guys like my setup. Any comments or suggestions are much appreciated.
