I see this question asked all the time on here. Unfortunately there isn't a simple answer. A little bit of Chlorine or Fluoride will not hurt your plants. Chlorine is actually a trace element needed by all plants in miniscule quantities. The Fluoride used to treat city water is generally in concentrations so low that it will not hurt you or your plants. In general, if it is safe for you to drink, it's safe to give to your plants. The thing that should worry most growers is the hardness of their water. I am not going to get into all of that here. If you'd like to learn more about water, click on the link in my sig. Happy growing and welcome to RIU.:weed:

Simple way to test the hardness of your water, get a bar of soap and try to wash your hands, hard water is water that has a large amount of dissolved minerals, such as calcium and magnesium. When present in high concentrations, these minerals make lathering with soap very hard to do, which is how the term “hard water” actually originated. If you can lather up really good then your water is fine. I fill a five gallon bucket with water and let it set out 2-3 days and use it. I have never had a problem.....

Your water company will have a water analyze on there web site. Mine is 7.0 pH, I don't imagine my equipment is as good as theirs.
I use an aquarium pump to aerate my water which will cause chlorine to dissipate much faster, 8-12 hours. It also adds oxygen to the water which is an added root benefit.

Normally city water have high level of Chloride, normally water have the minerals such as magnesium, flouride, chloride and soduim, so city water is also best for the growth..

Surprised no one mentioned chloramine . It doesn't vape off and srews up mineral assorption . Main thing to check is the PH . Even at 7 it can raise your soil PH b4 they are done flowering .

My city uses chloramine and I just use the aquarium drops for it. 1 drop/gallon, problem solved.

They run it at 3 PPM.

You must have old stuff. LOL

Mine removes: Chlorine,Chloramine, ClO, HClO, Cl2, NH2Cl, and states very plainly Chlorine and Chloramine Remover.

I made sure of the Chloramine bit because that's what my system uses.

I was also told by someone who should know, a little bit of organic matter in the water bucket will get rid of chloramine. The chloramine reacts with the organic matter, changes to ?? (chlorine??) and then off gasses.

Maybe, maybe not. IDK and have no way to test it. So ???????? Just passing on the info.
