im pretty shure you can its just harder to get them to root thats why most people get cuttings from the bottom

Ive never tried it, but I was thinking of taking my tops and trying to clone them.

Once they recover, go straight to 12/12 and see if i get em to grow like autos, just some nice short single cola plants.

I know clones are best taken from the bottom because they are likely to have more root hormones than the top, but Ive watched videos of people cloning from upper tiers, but they were never tops only branches.

Curious if anyone has actually cloned their tops.

I have 2 tops in the bubble cloner right now. Today is day #7. One of them had root bumps on day 4, and today has started to grow out. The other one just started showing root bumps yesterday... We'll see how they do in the next week, but they aren't dying yet!

I just planted my top into soil two days ago directly on 12/12 since i am already into flowering. The top rooted well, so we will see how it does on 12/12

Well, I had a good post lined up, but then RIU decided to take a shit on the post, so Ill try again.

I have used tops of plants as clones, and I have found them to root faster and more vigorous than lower side branches. Of course other people have reported the other way around. I can only speak from my own experience.

Branches at the bottoms of plants do not have more rooting hormones(Auxins) than the tops. The greatest concentration of auxins will be in the apical meristem of your main cola or colas, and this hormone is diffused downwards through the plant, so It would seem to make more sense to use tops as clones, or to use branches near the tops as your clones.

For OP, and anyone else curious about this Ive even got pics.

First is a clone made from a main cola. This is after 12 days rooting. All the clones I took from main colas rooted nearly as well as this particular one.

Now, here is a clone from a Satori that was taken near the bottom.

I dont know about you, but Ill keep taking my clones from tops or near the top of the plants in the future.

Hope this helps.

look at the size of stalk you are using for the cutting the more surface area there is to root the more roots that can sprout is what i have found so using a top may be better worse or just as good but it definitely works

Sure it works, I've had good esults doing it that way, with a bubble cloner. I've never taken clones from the bottom. It always seemed a waste to cut a top and throw it away. The only problem with cloning a top is that if you top during veg to get 2 main colas, you don't know the sex of the clone, unless you have femenized seeds or your plant came from a female clone.

I grow exclusively outdoors and this year I cloned my tops outdoors. I just treated them like they were cutting from my hibiscus hedge and they are doing awesome. I have three that I started in June and they are 2 feet tall and in their 3rd week of flowering.
