Clones in cups - 1000 watt HPS about 5 feet away or 4 bulbs of T8s really close?

I am getting some mentoring from top guy. He has me doing HPS 24 on/0 off with HPS. I am keeping temp max at 78 and humidity about 51% plus have a light fan breeze.. I sort of prefer T8s right on top of the plants or T5s. Which will grow em faster? Always worried about burning them babies up. Thanks

If they're small clones just use the T8's, no point in wasting electricity on light that won't be used anyway. Plants can only use so much light when they're small, excess is just a waste of money. In my experience if you're giving them adequate lighting, like the T8's would, at that age of the plant there is no difference in speed of growth going to a bigger light. Now obviously once the plant gets larger and can use up more light you should switch the HPS on.
