I have never bothered with the heating of the bottom of my clone's it is realy unessessary,You are far better of putting the clones under cfl's or flouresents.Has long has the temp is around 28/30 the plants will be fine mist the dome and the plant's for 7/12 days then take of he dome this will force the root system to get a move on.Make sure that you have a couple of warm daylight spectrum lights and they will do fine with out wasteing money on a mat.

I find that with domes, a bed of moist perlite on the base helps to raise humidity and allow O2 around the base of the clones. I don't think nutrients are a good idea, at least not until there are roots popping out the sides and even then only a real low mix like 1/4 normal for babies. I like using the heat mat personally b/c it assures high humidity but raise the tray off the mat by laying down a bunch of pencils or something non-heat conductive so you don't fry the base. I've read clones root faster when the base is a few degrees warmer than the air but not 90-100F hot. somewhere around 75-80 is good but a lot of it depends on the climate of your house and where you live.
