Cloning Autoflowers

Every single thread I have read online says do not clone autoflowers. Reduced yield and finding no branches for cloning are the excuses I have heard from cloning autoflower plants. Currently my friend is growing 2 diesel ryder plants 5 weeks from seed. One plant has been LST'd and looks amazing. It has one huge main cola bent away from the undergrowth so their is a bush of mini colas getting great light. This is a seed run so its been pollinated, but their are clear buds forming all other the plant. The other diesel ryder had its main cola snapped a week and a half ago and after it healed the main cola stopped growing. Its undergrowth grew so tall that its looks like a scrog plant. It has shown zero signs of flowering, except a handful of initial white hairs before the snap. There are about 9 branches that look like great clones. The hypothesis is that if we cut the clones and they take root, then maybe that will trigger the flowering cycle and we can have 9 lollipop nugs. I haven't seen anyone clone autoflowers so I hope you enjoy this experiment as much as I will. I will load pics when I can, and probably a post every other day. Enjoy!

The Auto Clone will be the same age as the mother, not much of a point cloning?
imo...

It won't TRIGGER flowering. The plant is 5 weeks from seed, it's already flowering. Autoflower's flower based on time, not on light.

I don't know about 'excuses', but people don't clone autoflowers because you can't put it back into veg.

brandon and zenOne I know where your coming from but if you read my post it says (or maybe i forgot to mention) that only 1 plant has been flowering for about 2 1/2 weeks and the other has not started flowering at all due to the main cola snapping off, but re-healing. You don't think that cloning it could help trigger the flowering? That's all this thread is about, answering that question. I dig the input tho.

i just donj't understand why cutting a branch(es) off of the plant would make it flower quicker?
you didn't mention what light schedule they are on, but it does seem odd that one would be flowering and the other not under the same lights..

there are 2 plants of exact strain, one is flowering and one is not. the one that isn't had its main cola broken off right before the other plant started flowering and it never flowered. Can we then agree that the stress from the main cola snapping has stopped/delayed the flowering of this plant? If the branches get cut into clones and they root and become individual plants, then the flowering cycle could be triggered. I think with individual roots they could produce they own hormones and pump out some buds. they are on 20/4 schedule, 24/0 first 3 1/2 weeks.

its pointless, if you clone today your clones are still 20sum days old, becaust they are the same age as thier mother, there is NO Vegatiative stage to an autoflower plant, it goes straight from seeldling to flowering. You cant revert to something you never had in the first place. Autos are made for a quick harvest, not for mothering, if your wanting more auto flowering plants buy a ten pack of regs and hope u get a male and female worthy of breeding, otherwise your auto garden or weeden' isnt gonna happen.

If you were to successfully root it, you may grow a 3 gram novelty bud. Your supposed to plant them in original pots to not risk shocking the plant during transplant, even a small mistake as a 2 day shock can knock away your harvest.

If u want clones, grab some badass seed and grow it for 2-3 months and youll be rolling in clones. or planting autos one by one is the only way (IMO)your going to get a field of green fairly quick.
didnt mean to offend if i did but i have to be honest, itd be nutz to clone an auto unless you just have so many u want to waste one.

Why do you think you can take clones, root them successfully and produce buds faster than the mother, who technically is flowering (you mentioned preflowers, and autos don't flip-flop between flowering and veg)? I'm sure she's just stressed and is going to flower just fine

the one with the top broken off is probably just stunted and if properly taken care of it should split into two main colas, just as if you topped it. Im assuming these plants have atleast 5-6 sets of leaves by now...? just take care of it and dont overwater and it will come back, maybe not as big as the other but it as long as theres still new growth your good.

What kind of lighting are u using? Temps?

Try kicking your lights to 17on-7off, the reason for this is it may speed up growth for you, alot of people think more light is better, this is true, but it needs dark periods just as much, this is the time it uses the energy its storing from the light to grow new leaves, and roots. Autos will flower reguardless of light period, but you should still maintain a steady light schedule(a timer) at the same times everyday. Try the 17/7 cycle for a week see if growth changes. Move it down slowly though, 2 day increments.. For example turn your lights on 19/5 tomorrow and the next day, then go to 18/6 for 2 days, then 17/7 for a week or two. the bi-daily light changes will simulate season changes and lower temps and should help pickup overall growth. But that Broken Diesel Ryder has to heal her wounds before she will start back flowering.
Good Luck

the main cola didnt snap off, its snapped almost completely off but was held on by a thread and healed the wound, and as of today has grown 3X the size it was when it broke. But zero signs of flowering. Also its up to 9 leaves, these were germed sept 20. What if I take a few clones and leave the living plant intact? Then we can test what you guys are saying also. Side by side clones vs the stressed plant. Sounds good to me.

i think the plant does veg. it vegges till it wants to flower this usually happens in a week or so. i had one auto grow 3 times the size cause i dint use a small pot. the roots getting to the bottom of the pot triggered flowering and they are now almost done. While the bigger potted plant started flowering later and still has a couple weeks left. So the key to it is put seed in big pot. cut cuttings on bottom of plant before the top starts budding. the lowering branches do not bud the same day as the top it takes a day or two to get the signal. cut it quick and it will grow veg still until it decides it needs to bud like its big enough and not hitting the bottom of a pot. it will know its a little cutting in veg and it needs to grow before it has hormones to bud. am i right?

It depends how much ruderalis is in your strain, to my knowledge no seed banks are selling 100 percent land race ruderalis, but super back crossed joints of popular strains to ruderalis. I cloned one once a few years back successfully, but it also vegged about 4 weeks before it went to flower so clearly wasnt as heavy on the ruderalis. I only cloned it once too so who knows if it could have done successive generations.

I have a grand daddy Purp pheno that refuses to veg more than 6 weeks. I'm on my fourth generation of it and its really starting to impress. its wierd though, it clones fine at 5th week veg, even though in another week that mother will start flowering, which puzzles me. I wonder what ken Estes would say lol.
