cloning from an alomost finished plant...

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I supposed it could be in general or indoor, but this seemed the most appropriate. I have seeds from a strain that is one that I have grown for many years. About 1 out of 20 times I grow it it comes out purple, with dense crystally buds that are tasty smelling and smoking and very potent. I would REEALLY love to clone this sucker but I am in week 6 of 12/12 which I understand is not the best time to take clippings for clones. Adding to that, I have never been successful with cloning before - but I haven't really tried that hard either. I was wondering if it would be worth a try to follow the typical directions for cloning and attempt it in soil. I am not setup for any kind of airponics or water cloning, but I am willing to try doing a few with soil or whatever might work the best. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely worth a try!Root Riots work great. Take the lowest branches possible for your cuttings. From what I've noticed they'll root just as fast as normal, but the plant itself won't start growing until it reverts which takes quite awhile.

Sure if you have the patience you can still clone it, you might be looking at a few weeks to a month. Suggestion might be to only chop the top parts of her and leave a few branches with the smaller popcorn buds, then after harvest put the remainder of the plant back under 24/0 light and let her reveg. This way you can take as many cuttings of the plant as you like, less strain on the plant and also much easier that late into flower.
Just a suggestion that has worked for me when I decided too late that I wanted to keep a plant

If you do try to clone it, take a branch with as little bud on it as possible...the buds are the first part to start getting mouldy. If that doesnt work, harvest about 3/4ths of your plant when it is done, and put it under 24/0 light to re-veg it...give it some nitrogen too...if you are lucky, you should see new growth within two weeks. Soon, the new shoots will be big enough to be cloned.

thanks for the replies. so if I take cuttings now, they will do fine. Does that mean no major harm will come to my plant that is almost done with 12/12? What do you mean when you say that the plant itself wont start growing until it reverts?

After harvesting the buds your plant is still alive. Put it back under 24/7 lite and it reverts back to vegging and starts to grow new shoots that can be clones :weed:

Just reveg her very beautiful plant great colors and everything. Put her under 24 hours light to let her switch back. Then take some clones.

I would agree with the consensus on just letting her reveg but I had a friend who was very successful cloning plants that were budding under 12/12. All his clones turned out to be huge 1/2-3/4 oz single buds. I don't really know how the hell he did what he did other than his clones were started in a hydro type system in cups with vermiculite as a medium under a humidity dome & a couple 6500k fluoro tubes.

THanks for the replies. I am canning the clone idea for now because I don't have time to set up a proper cloning area and I want to do it right. Plus I found that one bud on the purple plant has seeds in it!! After a VERY VERY thorough inspection, I find no other buds with seeds but I was freakin'. I remember having a hermie early on in my grow and I went in every day to pull off the balls -- stoopid -- there weren't many but I must have missed a couple and this plant must have been right next to the purple plant. Anyhow, I will keep the seeds and try that.

If I have time I will try to re-veg and clone from that. I had success revegging once before even though I didn't really do it right. I will do it right this time.

yes clone it from one of the small bottom braches! i do it all the time. the branches are stiff and seem to have a extra tough skin so i lightly scrape the skin with a razor blade to rough it up and give the cloning gel a little more penetration. roots an about two weeks

you can just do one or two clones and tupperware with a clear top to put them in. jiffy peat pellets to stick the cuttings in with cloning gel or powder. small light source and some patience.

Yea like stated already clone from one of the popcorn buds or u can just reveg a lower branch it's up to you. But the point is it can be done;)
