Cloning while still on the mother plant

I heard of a way to clone while still being on the mother today, I was told that if you scrape a lil bit of skin off where you want to clone and put your powder or gel on,then take a peat button and cut down the middle after you have soaked it and place where you have put you cloning gel or powder, wrap with some coffee filter or something close to that and tie it.Keep moist and the roots will start. After the roots have started, you can cut the clone off below the roots. I don't know if it will work, but, makes sense. That way your young clone will still be getting nutrients thru the stem, not the leaves til it takes root. If anyone has heard or done this please post.

Never thought about it, but it sounds reasonable. I'm just starting my second week of flower and I think I will try this. Wonder what the effect of 12/12 would be on the clone site.?

It's called Air-Layering - it works but it is only recommended for striking large cross section cuttings that would be difficult to strike if removed - small clones may as well be removed from the mother before striking, a lot easier and a good strike rate.

My dad would do that with the fruit trees and roses among other things. I remember it somewhat but never tried it myself. I know it does work,,,,,, sometimes. (LOL)
