Cloning ?

So, I got 4 cuttings from the mother plant. 2 r growing in water (distilled w/a very wee bit of nut w/high phos), and 2 (put in distilled water w/very very slight nut for about 30 sec and then dipped in rooting hormone powder and placed in a moist mixture of sand/soilless seeding medium). I have all of them sitting in a south facing window w/out direct sunlight.

My ? is re the h2o ones: how often, if at all, do I change the h2o? Do I just add distilled h2o and minute nuts, or water only until I see roots?

feeding a clone will actually slow up the root development

i am running a test right now myself on water cloning so my info is still just guestimates... i think the main reason to change the water for the clones is to oxygenate it.... i get a fair amount of evaporation out of my cup so i use my spray bottle to add more water daily... i stick the nozzle under the water level when i spray to make bubbles... least that is what i tell myself... i may just be being a stoner and playing with it

i am thinking a small airstone might help things out.

Thanks. We had storms the other night and had a broken branch....now have 2 more clones!!! I'll keep you posted...do the same.

You should change the water every other day, or every three days, whatever works for you. I've got a jade plant sitting in a cup of water in my window that I've never changed the water in, and it does just fine.

You can get a small pump and airstone or change the water everyday. Phosphorus promotes root growth but not to much. No nitrogen till you have roots. A good growth hormone with B-1 helps. Ph should be low around 5.5-6.0. Minimal light at first slowly increase light as you see little root knobs.

Update.....almost 10 days later:
1 h2o clone died...I accidentally snapped the branch
the other 3 (1 still in h2o and 2 in moist soil/sand) are still rocking: looking healthy and growing more leaves. Hwvr, I'm not seeing any roots being developed for the h2o clone. How long does it take for roots to develop?
