You have your HPS and MH info reversed...you want MH for veg, HPS for flowering...Now the amount of wattage you can use depends on the amount of airflow you have in your closet and how large your closet is...The only way of really telling is throwing some lamps in there and check the temp to see if you need ventilation...the smaller the closet the quicker it will heat up.

Hey Highgrl, on week 5 of flowering on my first grow. Hope you have as much fun as I am with it.

I went with a 250w mh.hps from The LA Shops. Complete setup including hangers for 149 to my door. Really depends on the size of yur closet. I keep my light about 10 inches or so from the colas. Using the hand method and a thermometer at canopy level to keep it under 80 degrees.

HAve changed things around some to better control my enviroment, but the light remains the same. I liked switching from mh to hps, just change the bulb and timer! and the clothes bar comes in handy for hanging lights and wires. Good Luck and have fun with it!:peace:

the closet is a walk in closet and it's in the basement. the lights i have no clue how i'm gonna rig that up. i'm not a electrician so i think of just having lamps i got like 3 lamps that's small wouldn't that do? and i know the hps bulbs are blue light for vegging and the mh is red for flowering that's what i have read alot from on this website and others

Most people use the lights the other way around. I use my MH for vegging and then the HPS for flowering. You don't need to use the 400w for seedlings, but I do. You could use much less when they are small, but it won't hurt them to use the 400w during the whole grow. I keep my 400w light anywhere from 2 foot to about 8 or 9 inches depending on whether or not I want my plants to stretch at all. The best way to keep from causing heat stress is to keep your light at a distance where its safe and let your plants grow into the light. Just keep an eye on them for heat stress when doing this. The closest my plants have gotten to my light is about 8 inches, but you might be able to get it a little bit closer depending on how hot your grow area is. Your plants will grow just fine with a 400w light. I hope this helped some.

I was lucky and had 2 outlets close to the closet. I used surge strips and plugged the timers to control what ever was plugged into them. One strip to control lights, fan, and humidity, 1 to control CF filter and 2 nd fan.

HiGrl, you have 3 lamps? What are they?

Folks here are real helpful, pics are worth a thousand words

This tells us nothing, except that you are probably using the wrong type of lighting...

http://www.htgsupply.com/Category-Grow-Lamp-and-Bulbs.asp <-- go here and see if the type of lamps you are using are listed there...

https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/937-how-grow-marijuana.html <-- Also read that before you go any further as it will answer alot of questions you may have and steer you in the right direction ;)

This is how I started, couple desk lamps a cfl and a 40w plant light. From what I've learned so far, is the more light, the faster the grow, the better the grow. I've seen alot done with CFL grows, some in a garbage can! CFL's are cheap, but must be kept very close to the plant. Think of the plant as a car, the leaves the gas tank, and the lights as the fuel to make it go!

Well...the higher the wattage the better the light penetrates the plant and the better it will grow...There is also efficiency involved here with CFL's...the best efficiency CFL bulbs are the 23-26 watt bulbs...they give the most lumens per watt...you go lower the efficiency gets worse, you go higher the efficiency gets worse...

I've seen some great grows done with several 23-26watt CFL's cascaded around a plant hanging down...you just want to keep them 1-2" from the plant and throw a small reflector on it to direct as much of the light as possible at the plant.

I started by reading Seymour Buds grow book that I found on the net. Good book to give you a start when you have little light to work with. You can still get some bud growing with his method.

I look at it this way, if you can get ANY bud your first time, you did well. Patience is a virtue, but a pain in the ass. Enjoy the process and the wonder of Mother Nature. My first grow is as much fun as finding out about Sex and Harleys
