OK, so I got a friend who wants to do a small closet grow (technically not a "closet grow" as it will be under some stairs), and I told him I would help him with the concepts.
I know there are a lot of you who have done small grows, and have used some of the methods I wish to use in this, so I would like some second opinions to make this more efficient.
So, here is the plan I have drawn up thus far.
He will need:
-plywood, enough for 6 3x3 pieces.
-(3) Fluorescent light fixtures (2ft long, unless he can get 32 in long)
-(3) cool white and (3) warm white fluorescent bulbs
-pot (need ideas for how big)
-tray
-(2) 8 inch fans (idk about the cfm or w/e, need to be taught)
-reflective material (im sure foil will due fine for now)
-wire mesh (I was designing a ScroG)
-locking mechanism
-(4) door hinges (the design calls for an openable top and side for easy access)
-fine but hard mesh cloth(meaning small holes, but hard material)
-carbon (the stuff for aquariums)
So, saying he has cut the 3x3 pieces, he will need to take one piece, and in 2 corners opposite each other, cut a hole 4 inches in diameter. Then in another side, cut a hole big enough for an electric plug to fit.
Then, coat what is to be the inside of this "box" with the reflective material.
Next, mount the lights, all about an 2 inches apart.
Now, screw all of the pieces together except the one opposite the side w/ holes and the top . Take the side that is to be opposite the one w/ holes, and screw it on from the bottom, using 2 door hinges (so it opens from the top). Then, take the top, and screw it on w/ door hinges on the side w/ holes, so now it opens where the one side opens. So basically we got a box that opens from one side and the top.
Now, put a multi-oulet thing (idk what its called) in the box, and run the cord out the small hole in the bottom corner. Now, put (1) 8 inch fan in, and plug it and the lights in (running all the cords so as not to be in the way of the plant). Point the fan at a wall of the box when turned on the lowest setting. Test the lights (starting out with the cools).
Time to put in tray and pot with soil. Use the best local store offers.
Assuming he has sprouted his seed his own way, plant the seed in the pot. And from there, I will need someone to better explain the ScroG method. I know you use either string or wire mesh (or even fencing) and you just like keep the plant's branches under this mesh, after of course it reaches to the light a few inches. You do as the name implies I take it, you make a screen of green. But, I would Like a better explanation so my friend won't have to go off my very basic knowledge.
Oh, and the cloth mesh and carbon, that was for a cheap carbon filter. Simply make a pouch with the mesh, and fill it with the carbon stuff, and put that over the hole used to vent out old air. And you can use the left over mesh to cover up the other holes so no creepy crawlies get in.
And the locking mechanism to lock the opening side, so if anybody stumbles across this strange box, they won't be able to find out whats in it
