I used some Coast of Maine "Growers Mix" and some FoxFarm "Happy Frog" in 3 gallon pots to see what my young plants liked best.
The Coast of Maine stuff was way too hot and my poor plants were stunted and unhappy with dark purple stems and light colored leaves. The "Happy Frog" plants were super happy and healthy and grew great.
A few weeks later I mixed some of the hot Coast of Maine with some of the more mild Happy Frog to get a nice intermediate soil. I used this mixture to repot the healthy 3 gallon plants into 7 gallon pots a week before flowering.
The plants seemed to love the mix and are still looking great, now 3 weeks into flower. It worked out OK in the end.
So anyway, watch out! That Coast of Maine stuff is Hot.
