Coco + Growstones = ??

I have got a full grow tent, air filtration, therometers, etc
My grow medium is confusing though! I havent made a mixture and put it in a pot yet because I'm confused.. I want to go organic (avoid using nutrient if possible.. $$ monetary issue)

I have the following products, and I don';t know how to go about combining them to make a decent grow medium and plant my first seeds (WHICH HAVE ALREADY SPROUTED IN THE PAPER TOWEL :) )
My plan was to have a 'soil' mixture (comprised of the things below) which i can just water occasionally, and all the water that leaves the pot will drain into a dish down the bottom. Lights will be 600w mh and hps

and
and I also have some organic compost

Are these appropriate to use? I need to get something into one of these 10L pots and plant my seeds asap but I'm scared I don't have the right stuff. Desperately need help :(

what are the grow stones for ? and you're going to need some more soil amendments like blood and bone meal worm castings and perlite then go mix all that shit up in a big garbage can and you got your organic soil then fill your pots and you're ready to go

Grow stones are there for space-filler I guess.. To keep things nice and airated and moist underground.

I can't use bone casting and worms because I'm a vegan. Any alternatives to these animal based products?
I don't have the time to make that super mixture :( Will my plants be shit if I use coco, growstones, compost and rockdust?
Fuck.. I left this last step too late, im a fucking idiot..

you'll be fine just go mix all your stuff up now i would however get some perlite so your mix will drain better. hmm as for being vegan, you're not eating the weed right? using blood and bone meal should be fine as a lot of organic farmers use these items on your produce instead of pesticides.

I'm not eating it but I couldn't put money forward to something that exploits a life. My cash is like my vote, and I only vote for shit that every living creature can get down with ;)
And you're right most farmers would use it but i gotta make an effort and I wouldn't feel right about buying a bag of dried dead worms (or whatever it is :spew:)

haha

I'll mix all my stuff up and get a seed planted.. I'll no doubt absolutely have to use nutrience though, won't I? it's a pretty un-nutritional grow medium :(

They are worm castings(poop), not dead worms....and by buying them you are supporting worm farming (more worms will be born to supply the demand if you buy it). It's saving the planet compared to all the other chemicals you could use.

Just buy a cube of pro-mix, fill up your pots and plant them...it will cost you 30$. Pro-Mix alone can grow your plants if you don't go too big. I just feed the ones I put in pro mix one time with a bloom booster when leaves start to yellow 3 or 4 weeks before harvest. I got over 50 grams of dried buds on one small plant doing this.

That's awesome! Nice job, and thank you for your refleshingly intelligent reply! Worm casting (by your logic) is realistically not a harm to the environment, and where it sits on the issue of being 'a complete exploitation of a creature for the benefit of man' is two sided.. because the worms would live a happy, healthy and social life with no awareness that their fecal matter is being harvested..

I won't write off worm castings just yet then, and i'll pick some up and have it ready for my 2nd grow, but the first grow is unfortuantely resisricted to buffered coco, growstones, a bit of shitty compost and rock dust... fuck my life.
Can someone confirm my assumption that I will need to use nutrience for this grow, or is it not the absolute shittest starter-soil you've seen?

thanks for the replies, loving the forum. are any of you members over at FC? (vapes)

edit: infact, for my 2nd grow I will have worm castings but it will be from my own little worm farm. It would be naive to assume that there wasnt any 'collateral damage' involved in collecting castings from a commercial operation. hard to pick out every worm before taking it's surrounding soil :P food for thought though!

Yes, you need nutrients or your plants will probably not make it past week 4. I use canna brand, you need coco A+B nutrients......4 ml of each per gallon of water, that's how I do it...I also add 2 ml of calmag per gallon. Every feeding from seedling until flush(2 weeks prior to harvest...go 1/4 strength). A and B nutrients are like 30$ total, calmag is 20$.

I'll grab them tomorrow afternoon then. Will my seedlings be okay for a day or two with normal tap water or is this running a risk?

Oh and BTW no worms are harmed for casting harvesting...they simply screen the shit out...worms don't go through the screen...if I remember correctly, I've seen a news report done on worm farming.

Your seedlings will be fine for two weeks...the primary leaves(I forget the right name) have all the nutrients the plant needs for the first two weeks of life, two weeks after sprouting, your plant starts to eat. You do not need to feed them anything for the first two weeks.

Good to know, thank you. Ya learn something new every day! I'll get some and prepare to recreate the super-soil that was mentioned in an earlier post. That is an ideal way to grow, am I right?
I wanted to avoid nutrience but oh well.. Fuck it, I fucked up, i'll try again next time. At least this way I can compare a nutrience grow to an organic grow and i'll have tried a grow technique that I didn't expect to be thrown head-first into!

I'm going to need this forum more than I originally thought.. haha.. and so the dependancy is formed.

Wonderful! A grace period like that should give me time to prepare for the veg and flowering of my two little sweethearts. Learning a lot, thanks smootherpete. Good poster!

Fuck this, I give up. Just made a mess of my garage trying to mix a grow medium and clean the growstones.
Will my seeds be okay in a zip lock bag in a moist paper towel for another day or two? It's been about 40 hours.. They are ready to plant. Can they be left in the moist paper towel for too long? Im stressing myself out a bit over this

Take a look at this simple and complete starting formula for a water only soil grow.

Easy Organic Soil Mix for Beginners - Organic Growing

Now then, as for your direct problem right now.....you need to break down and buy a good organic "plant ready" soil.

Dr. Earths potting soil
Potters Gold

or something on that line will get you through this first run till your "home made" soil is ready for your next!

And this will allow me to use less chemical nutrience? I would much prefer to do that if I can find such a thing.. Hopefully the nearest gardening & building megastore has something of that sort. any indicators to look out for that it's a good quality one apart from the price?

Yes.
You can always use an organic over the counter fert. to fill in after 30 days (These are good for 30 days of use. You must "feed" after that. I use the Potters Gold as my supersoil base).
You are vegan, so avoid Fish emulsions for a fert.

Consider making your own organic fertilizers by making AACT Teas. Search that on this site.
