hi.

I'm new to the forum, been reading around a lot and still need to ask. sorry for repeating a question asked so many times. i really could not find a definitive answer anywhere...

this is my second grow and on my first i had done every mistake possible. i am hoping that the second time would be better. A description of my setup:

400W HPS (son-t agro bulb - for added bleu spectrum) in cool tube connected to the exhaust fan (189 m3 an hour) with active carbon filter sucking air from top of room directly out via the buildings ventilation shaft. fresh outside air intake with a 99m3/hour blower and a same size intake without a blower also coming from inside the house. also a oscillating fan blowing across the plants. the strain is AK-48 grown from seeds (sensi seeds). the grow medium is regular potting soil, seedling soil and expanded clay mixed at 50-40-10% ratio. the pots are 10 liter buckets 1 per plant (new) with holes drilled on the bottom for drainage. the plants where placed in these buckets as sprouted seeds.

they are now 13 days from popping up from the soil. temps have been somewhat high. day time has been mostly around 28-32C / 82-89F now it's steady at 28-30C / 82-86F and at night 2-3 degrees colder. humidity was at the first week very high around 75-80% but has dropped down to 60% last week. this has to do with high and humid outside temps and i can't really do much about it but wait for colder weather.
the light is 51cm / 1.6 foot from the top of the plants. no fert given yet. i measure the soil moisture using a stick meter and water only when mid to almost dry with tap water that has been standing to evaporate the chlorine. they have been growing very nicely and seemed healthy until i spotted a yellow spot on the center-front of one plant 2 days ago. i did not think much of it untill today i notices other spots on the edges of 4 other plants. the spots are not always on the top leaves and and some are on the edge and others are in the center-front of the leaf. here are some pics:

so, what do you guys say? nutrient deficiency? too close to light? too hot? it's hard for me to diagnose because they are still growing very nicely and fast. but something is wrong and i better catch on to it before it becomes a problem... any help would be appreciated. thanks.

82`F is a good temp to stay at.. depending on your RH % values.

86`F is a little high.. just a little too close to 90`F. The closer you get to 90`F... the slower the plant will grow. Cannabis doesn't like really hot environments.

I personally have a portable A/C unit that I bought just this summer.. and it was a blessing. Especially considering the fact that we've now had like 25 days of 100+`F temps.. with heat indexes between 105 to 111`F max. It's been a fucking incredibly hot summer so far.. where I'm at, they haven't seen temps this hot since like the 1890's.. we actually broke the 1896 high temp record yesterday.. when we hit 110`F (actual temp) with heat index at 114`F!! Yea, 114`F!!! Like you step outside man.. and you can't even hardly breathe.. that's how fucking hot it is. I've personally.. in my 29 years of life.. have never experienced outdoor temps this hot. I mean its actually getting redicoulus!! Our outdoor temps are suppose to be in the mid 100's all this week.. with heat indexes between 105'`F to 115`F. We haven't had any rain to speak of for the past 4 or 5 weeks too.. which has caused MAJOR problems around here. In fact, people have reported that their concrete foundations to their houses.. have begun to buckle and crack!! Now, if that doesn't give you an idea of just how hot it is here.. then, I don't know how else to explain it.

But anyhow, the portable 'Commercial Cool' unit I bought.. has been a true lifesaver so far this summer. Not only has it kept my grow area cool.. its kept my ass nice and cool too! So its already paid for itself IMO.

You should look into one of those Commercial Cool units man. It's about the only way you'll get your temps down to where your plants will be happy. Sure, you can just use fans with an A/C unit.. but that's not going to actually 'cool' down the area.. its just going to keep blowing around the hot air.

Right now, I keep my environment right at 81`F with RH levels right at 38%. Doesn't matter if the lights are on or off.. I'm able to keep my temp/RH levels where I want them.. when I want them. ;)

Good luck kid.

peace.

hey,

s%#t, that hot....
ya, ac would be nice but our temps are rarely so high so i can live without it. also my plants are showing no signs of slowed growth.
any idea about the yellow spots on my babies?

Regular potting soil? Never heard of that brand:lol:
You have the wrong light in there for veg and hps'es
don't take a real good pic either? 95% of problems
are either nute burn or ph issues learning how to
diagnose'em is priceless!

^^i agree. 1st things 1st get some ph'ed water into them. if its not causing a problem now it will.

im gunna assume your growing in coco...that being said, i have heard very good things about it, but have never used it personally although the downfall to coco is that your first watering needs to be PH'd...if you havent done that then your gunna have multiple problems. i cant remember where i read that at, but basically, a guy was having the same issue and couldnt get the PH right after he got a PH tester...you also need to consistantly add some type of cal/mag to coco...the coco just takes the calcium and magnesium for itself...leaving the plant with none if not properly fertilized regularly.

hi,

the soil is a potting soil available here where i live (europe) the package of the regular soil states the following:
NPK 6-12-24 with trace elements
nitrogen 50mg/liter
phosphorus 70mg/liter
potassium 200mg/liter
PH 6.5

and the seedling soil package states:
5% fine Limestone powder
NPK 14-4-20 + trace elements
400g/m3 humus
nitrogen 80mg/liter
phosphorus 50mg/liter
potassium 220mg/liter
PH 6

I just measured the water i use using PH-indicator paper and it's showing PH7. when measuring the soil it showed somewhere between PH6 and PH7 closer to PH7. SO, it's probably not a PH issue.

the bulb i use is an special agro bulb with added blue spectrum for veg and flower. YES, metal halide is better for veg, but this bulb will do the job also.

here are better pics of my babies with the HPS light off:
