Converting Roleadro blurple COB to higher quality

Hey gang,

how difficult would it be to swap out the chips on a light like :

to better quality chips? also what kind of chips would be needed to make a conversion like this?

am currently running 2X 300w Viparspectra reflectors which have been OK, but looking for something better for my next grow, to use in conjunction with these.

any info is appreciated,

Just buy a case from northern grow lights......

Easy to do. Whatever chips you want.

Just don't buy it new, get it used and save your money. The case, drivers and heat sink are what you are re-using.

Find out what voltage and amperage your drivers are, that will help you figure which chip will work. I suspect the Citi 1212 would be a perfect upgrade for that housing. got a pic of the internals?

I agree I wouldn't buy one for that purpose however, get that case ready to build from Northern Grow Light and save a few bucks actually.

To hell with that, I'd replace the drivers, too. And I'd go with Vero29C Gen 7s in 3500k 90CRI. If Citi, 1818s.

The Roleadro's have (4) 36v 1200mah drivers and one 12v driver for the fans. The drivers run at 88% efficiency. I have one and put 1212's in it

I'd certainly not use those chips in one of those pieces of crap, with $40+ chips and good drivers, may as well spend the money to build something better, I mean, where's the savings in that? Its like putting gold wheels on a ten dollar bicycle.... And the 1212 is a great chip for the money, FAR better than what's in those lights

If it's only the frame being salvaged, what does it matter?

yep. its a better deal than diy actually. and you get 2 extra drivers. you're buying it for the frame, heatsinks, drivers, fans, wires, daisy chain plug, on/off switch, reflectors, etc

Just need to drill holes for the new the cobs and mount them. Or solder and tape if you're that type

Will I need to solder and of these components? Or If i buy 2 lights and 4 chips will it be more or less "plug and play" as far as the install goes. I trust my competence enough to be able to unscrew the housing and that's about it :mrgreen:

1-10 scale how complicated is something like this for someone with zero skills

cool! will probably be giving this a shot sometime in the next few weeks, was also looking into the quantum boards @Growmau5 is hot and bothered about, but i think thats a little bit out of my skill set for DIY
