Cooling hot lights

I want to grow in a grow room size 2'7" x 4'11" x 6'7" and I want to make sure to cool my 400w metal halide so it can get close to my plants without burning them which I'm currently having a problem with. Right now Im growing open in the garage. Ive tried pointing a fan at the bulb but that hasnt worked. Will a Can Fan 4" at 142 cfm be enough to get the heat out from under the bulb in that size grow tent? Do I need to air duct the bulb directly by removing one of the side panels or something? I'm wishing I would've bought a air cooled reflector. I don't want to buy a grow tent and still have a heat problem. Is it possible to grow in a grow tent thats in the garage without venting in air from outside?

Think a cool tube is the way to go for you mate. Pointing a fan at the light is only gonna move the hot air in your grow area not extract it.

I foolishly thought I could get by using a 600W light without an air-cooled hood. It's a goddamn miracle my babies finished with 90+ degree temps. I pretty much doubled my yield next harvest when I finally installed a Cool Tube.

Air cooling is appropriate for that situation. Once I stepped up from a bat wing reflector to an air cooled reflector it made all the difference in the world. I bought a used reflector and installed my old socket set. In that way I was able to use my old ballast and with the used reflector, ducting and an inline fan to run it was only out about $125.00 US.

Alright looks like I'll have to get a cool tube thanks for your help. Is it easy to switch reflectors?

You might have to drill a couple of new holes in the new reflector to hold the socket set. Other than that you will be golden.
