Well this is my first official grow. Just moved into the new place and got it all setup a few days later. Ive been lurkin RIU for a good while compiling information, knowledge and ideas to help with my first setup. I used to do alot of making waxes but deciding i want to try out some cultivating now.

This will just be a small closet CFL grow. Couple random bag seeds until i get one under my belt comfortably. Running 10 - 23w 5000k right now for vegging. Using MG soil ( i know tisk tisk... but my fulltime job gives me access to gardening products at little to no cost, so i am going to do all organic but retail store type products to try out my first one. MG Organic soil and then ill use some bone and blood meal for feedings, along with some fish emulsions.

Heres some pics below. Im very excited at the rate these things grow. Every time i pop my head into the room to check temps i can see a visual difference on each. My biggest/first guy is moving so fast. And oddly, he skipped his node with the 3 finger leaf. It sprouted a 5 leaf right after its first single blade.

6 Seeds. Random bag seed. Im going to top my 1st guy once the 3rd node comes in. 1 other one i tried fimming at the 2nd node last nite and seems to be taking it well. Im going to do different tests to each plant. topping vs fimming, possible lst. Watering only when the bucket weight and finger test tells me( im pretty good and judgement for watering from my fulltime job)

IMG_20141013_024057_067.jpg day 2 of the big guy

IMG_20141016_123805_473.jpg day 4

IMG_20141018_114803_683.jpg day 9 ( he skipped his 3 finger leaf node. its already sprouted a 5 finger leaf. hard to tell in pic but when looking at hte plant close up it deff has 5 )

IMG_20141015_195530_463.jpg other 5 random seeds going

IMG_20141018_115438_998.jpg day 9 of the group

IMG_20141018_115444_502.jpg fimmed this little guy last nite as a test.

Think its time for a transplant tonite, just looked at the bottom of the cups and starts to see the roots slowly turning. everyone is slightly damp so should be perfect timing.

Will update soon! very excited everyone looks healthy and visually growing by the hours!

Thanks for stopping by Bryleetch!

Ended up transplanting them all yesterday before i went out to a concert for the night. They all needed it. roots where just starting to turn in the cup.

Can notice 2 are deff in shock with very minimal activity in the last 24hrs. Nothing bad but no major growth. Big guy is still rockn and rolling. 3rd node is in and 4th is growing now as well. Still very wierd the 1st node came out as a 5 leaf. Ive attatched one pic below of a leaf show. Noticed some spotting today. not sure if its from the transplant? maybe i got a bit of water and it burned? Everything was transplanted into organic Miraclegro w/ perilite.

Looks like my fimm job is just as they call it.... fak i missed. looks like im going to get 3 shoots off that cut. growing 2 nice ones of the side and another one up the middle. We'll see how it pans out. i added 2 2700k bulbs in the middles to get a small stretch. everyone is staying very low right now which is fine by me.

Day 10!
IMG_20141019_132246_568.jpg day 10 - big guy - nice new growth. 3rd node opening up nicely.

IMG_20141019_184102_838.jpg any help on what this may be ? leaf is dry. around one spot it looks slightly moist ( possibly its trying to heal itself )

IMG_20141019_184521_986.jpg fimm job. Looks like 3 shoots!

Much love will check in tomorrow on my day off.

Yea that little spot looks similar to when i've gotten light burn from leaves literally touching the light but I'm really not the best at determining which problem is which, doesn't look like much to worry about tho. Still looking good, keep doing what you're doing.

Thanks. Thats what i thought possibly as well after seeing another thread show leaf burn. new growth has no problems. maybe i tapped it to the light but the opposite side single leaf has 1 spot as well you can see in the picture. I thought i made shure not to touch anything. Plants are all about 2inches at max away from the light. Thanks!

Well like you mentioned if there was water on the leaves it could have magnified the light but just grazing the light won't hurt

Day 11 Update.

Well just woke up and popped in on them. Sadly didnt see very much visual change. I feel like they are stopping growth over the last 12hrs for some reason. big guys spots are still the same but have darkened in color a bit to a slightly more rusty color. I am noticing 2 more spots slightly starting to show on the leaf as well. This is only happening on the 2 lower single blades. newer growth looks fine on top.

4 others are still slowly going. I tihnk everyones reacting to the soil change and transplant now. My fimm job one is still cruising nicely and showing visible change.

Will post pics a little later today since im off work. Gonna periodically peek in on them to keep an eye on the spots. temps staying at 79-81 w/ 45-52% humidity. 2 fans running to keep circulation and strength.

quick snaps when i popped in earlier.

IMG_20141020_212440_981.jpg big guy seems to have had some decent growth in past 24hrs if i compare to some other pics from last nite. looks like mostly the leaves getting bigger. still hasnt pushed the next node yet. spots havnt really occured. saw 2 more tiny ones come in but nothing else since.

IMG_20141020_212425_969.jpg fimming one is cruising along nicely with no problems. still cant tell if its gonna be 3 mains or if the middles gonna split. maybe tell tomorrow. 3 other girls havnt advanced to much today. seem to be maybe still slighty shock from transplant.

All pots are showing tiny roots near bottom holes so i know they should take to the transplant nicely. I did finally ph test my water at my new place, we are on well water so was hoping it would be nice but it seems to be really high. like 8. only had strips on access. just order a digital meter and ppm meter as well. gonna switch to distilled until we get our RO unit up ( buddy doing aquariums for work comes in handy. free pure water soon )

Cheapo soil ph meter from work shows around mid 6s, i ordered a digital as well so waiting on that one to be more accurate. Ill leave em be and probably raise the light in a few days to get some stretch. I plan to veg for 30daysish then flip due to area using and just since this is my first test/full go around and we wanna see how the electric bill will be.

well check in tomorrow.

everyones but 1 guy has shown new growth while i was gone at work. big guy is rocking and rolling again. My fimmd guy is going so fast now i love it.

Moved the lights up a bit and added some 2700s to get a small amount of stretch. everyone is stay really low but seems to be working nicely now. Gonna pickup like 20gallons of water after work tonite on the cheap since the 8+ ph well water is not good. I think the last watering they showed that they dont care for the water anymore.

will post up some pics tonite. spots have not advanced anymore so im happy with that. Just let em take their course!

popped in since i just got home from work. everyone is looking pretty good, but i think its time these guys get some kind of feeding. the leaves are a lightish green and are slightly lightening up in between the veins. possibley mag deff or maybe nitrogen since i havnt fed anything? Im on day 12 right now. seeded in MG regular potting mix but then transplanted to MG Organic w/ perlite. The organic has very minimal organic supplements in form of bone and blood meal but its like .18 - .12 - .10 so i think these girls are telling me they are hungry now. Pics below if anyone could glance and let me know. Few guys are showing tiny tiny burn at a tip of like 1 leaf, thats the only reason i havnt tried a small feeding yet. Gonna pickup something at work tomorrow around the 5-1-1 range or so. Also stopped at wallyworld tonite and knabbed like 10gallons of water since our well water is junk right now( read ph of 8.2 even tho last week it was 6.8 ). Gonna see if the water helps them change up a bit. may add a tad of mollases as ive seen many on here add that in for some cal/mag help.

Any input is great. Will post some full shots in a bit. Maybe im just being too worried but im one that likes to do things right so if i can catch sometihng early its better then late for me. Maybe nothing, maybe early signs of something. not to worried right now since visual growth is still abundant and new growth is looking great and reaching for light. not to worried on my first leafs since theyll shed off later in life.

much love!

My best guess would be nute burn just considering that you're in miracle grow which is kind of notorious for that, doesn't look too serious though. I'd be hesitant to start feeding if that is indeed nute burn, maybe hold off on that for a watering or two and see how they respond to that fresh water you just picked up. Hopefully someone who is a little more sure than me on whether it is nute burn or not could help you out with that

Thanks dude. Yeah im gonna try first watering with the new stuff which by looks of it should be when i get up around noon. ill see how they act with that and possibly add molasses into the next one and maybe feed after. my new growth is pretty light green but, it is new as well.

Day 13

IMG_20141022_240843_266.jpg big one pushed another node and onto the next. moved the lights up to get some stretch.

IMG_20141022_240922_769.jpg underside going nicely

IMG_20141022_240910_785.jpg fim job. it looks like i may have not cut enough or it was too early and looks like it may not even be a fim job at all and just going to grow normally. oops.

3 others are nothing special. 1 i havnt really seen any growth from and may just get rid of. i need to slim down to 3 for my lights. Gonna give a friend another one.

Day 14

Kids are getting bigger. Big one is taking off now and damn its starting to smell already. opened the door after work and got a gooood wiff! :) sooo hoping for a girl!

Still noticing the discoloring in leaves. light green/yellow. faint right now and kinda hard to catch with a camera but i tihnk its telling me its time for some N. not sure tho...i see a few tip burns on some plants...which is why im weary but my new soil had a nute level of .18-.12-.10 so very minimal and the leaves are a lighter green then some pictures on here ive seen. 1 or 2 more spots have popped up as well now :(

Finally got a digital soil ph meter today and everyones okay at 6.7 right now. watered the big one with the new water today so gonna see how it likes that and if it helps bring down ph a tad over the next week since i accidently watered with some 8.2ph water.... :(

Went out and got some blood meal 12-0-0 and some bone meal 4-8-6 for these bad bishes! Think im gonna start some blood meal at like 1/4 this weekend on the next watering.

One of the smaller ones is getting some slight sugar texture to its lower leaves already... hoping that ones a girl for sure too! ( deff not bugs or spider mites )

IMG_20141022_115745_588.jpg big one is really on a roll now. all branches looks great and growing out!

IMG_20141022_115740_769.jpg the whole family. sadly my plant specialist/friend at work is going to take the 2 back ones this weekend. i need to slim down to fit these plants for flowering. and let alone the big one is hogging 5 bulbs while the other 4 are fighting for 5 bulbs. didnt think id have that many sprout and go so well. its been fun tho.

Will check in tomorrow.

hrmm so after reading UncleBens post on moisture problems and such i tihnk im leaning toward i have overfert problems, even tho i havent fertilized. So i guess i can put blame on my dumb idea to use the regular MG potting mix. it was only a solo cups worth so im hoping itll pass. i guess i will wait a bit on feeding.

Uncle Bens Thread Post info/credit
"1. Over-fertilizing - the most common cause of leaf cupping aka leaf margin rolling, leaf margin burn, and leaf tip curl/burn is the overzealous use of too much plant food in relationship to factors such as plant size, vigor and rate of growth. The first unit of a plant to show moisture stress is the leaf at its margins and/or tips, reflected by margin rolling (cupping) or burning. Sometimes copper colored necrotic spots show in the leaf also. A hard, crispy feel to the leaf frequently occurs as well, as opposed to a soft and cool feel of a happy leaf. When you have a high concentration of salts in solution (or in the root medium) compared to lower salinity levels found in the plant’s tissue, water is actually drawn out of the plant across the root gradient in order to fix the ppm imbalance. IOW, this is a natural, osmotic response that serves to equalize salinity levels on both sides of the root’s epidermal gradient. Back off on the amount and/or frequency of plant food. Too much plant food can also burn the roots, especially the sensitive root tips and hairs, which then creates another set of problems such as nutrient deficiencies. A note for the bio folks - as soil dries, the concentration of the remaining salts rises further exacerbating the problem. Leach (flush) your pots once in a while to get rid of excess salts. "

the bold part seems to highlight alot of my symptoms, aside from the lightening of the leaves, but i guess that could be cal/mg showing ?

Well the big one is taking off real fast now! on its 5th node now and lower shoots are growing so fast they are catching up to the middle cola.

Gave it a good watering with the new water last nite. Then just got home on lunch break and noticing more spots popping up again. mostly on the single blade leaf again so im not terribly worried but still curious as to why im getting these spots. one person mentioned calcium but i tested soil ph and its at 6.7....

Seems like the spots are popping up after each watering, is that right? MG time-released fertilizer may be the culprit if that's the case

yeah there was there stupid little fert ballz in there so im guessin is they are either popping or a root is finally hitting it and then getting a quick root burn.

with some help on here i think we did figure out my problems are lying in the too much nutes for how old it is. Im going to let it dry out over the next few days and do a good flush as they recommended.

Will just let them roll as they are and hope itll level out. in good new my ppm and water ph meter came today and my ph up and down will be in tomorrow just in case i need it. Will order some botanicare this weekend as well for when these pups start showing they want food.

since the spotting is on older leaves im not too worried. these things are cruising so fast for 16 days anyway. cot leaves are almost shed off the plant already.

will post some pics. letting the room air out for abit, humidity was kinda high and random warm day here didnt help. started to see slight signs of some mold on soil due to just watering last nite and the temp in house picking up today while i was working.

well the smell is getting quiet heavy now when i open that door. and being that this room is in my living room behind the tv... dont think this spots gonna work well if i have guests over. Think im gonna take at trip to work and built myself a nice cheap grow tent to setup in the basement. that way i can just tap into the dryer vent ducting and run the air out of the house too.
