1. Be sure the buds are at full ripeness before cutting anything...
2. Leave the plant whole; don’t cut off any branches or bud you want to cure. Snip off the fans that have stems or small leaf tips that have no visible trichomes on them. Leave the rest alone
3. Cut the plant once at the base to harvest it. Hang to dry for 7-10+ days
4. ****important*** Wait until the stems break when you bend them; if you bend a stem and it just creases over without snapping it’s not dry enough to trim yet. When you feel the stem snap when bent over it’s ready to finish trimming.
5. Finish trim the buds. Break down the large cola buds into smaller nuggets; they will dry/cure better this way. Doing this over a sifting screen allows you to collect the keif later on. Put the finish buds into a jar for curing but do not seal them up yet. Take your time; it is ok if it takes a few days to finish this part. Store everything in an open jar until it is ready to seal. Sealing the bud when it’s still wet in the middle is a common noob mistake; most problems come from this very thing. It’s nearly impossible to overdry the bud and if you do Boveda packs or a fresh canna leaf in the jar will help get them supple again.
6. Fill jars with bud no more than 2/3 full to allow air inside for curing. Place the jar lid over the top upside down leaving a tiny sliver open for air exchange. Don’t seal them yet...Leave it until the next morning.
7. Next day check the jars. Open the lid and put your face right in there & get a good whiff. If it smells like good dank weed it’s ok to seal up the jar. Check the jars in this way everyday for the first week. Then you can just seal them up and burp every few days or as often as you like.
If it smells like hay you done fucked up...that is mold growing & you either harvested too early or sealed up the bud too quickly. Dump it all out and let the buds dry completely but once mold has set in it’s real hard to get rid of.
This tutorial teaches you the best way to dry and cure cannabis buds after harvest, which greatly increases bud quality. Quality drying/curing ensures the best smelling, most dense and highest potency marijuana buds!
I don’t think hay smell is from mold is it? I thought that was a normal part of the process as the chlorophyll breaks down.
Also most guides say if you over dry the bud it won’t cure.
In my very limited experience it seems like after a few weeks the bud will start to smell like good weed no matter how it was initially. some took longer than others, based on how well they were dried I think.
