Curing

So, I just got done drying a run of Northern Skunk (Peak Seeds) and took a sample from it last night and stuck it in my pipe before it was jarred. It rocked my world!! So I was sitting there stoned, and got to thinking .......

Do any of you notice that the potency of your marijuana is strongest when it's first cut? It seems that way to me. Is it possible that the longer it sits (cures), the more the THC degrades, and becomes less potent?

I don't question that a cure will improve upon the taste, aroma, and over all smoke-ability, but I wonder about the potency.

This could just be due to me not smoking this particular strain for a few weeks in between runs, and my tolerance is now lower for this strain because of it.

Thoughts?

Obviously THC is going to degrade, mostly by oxidation, hence jarring it. Yes potency is likely its highest when it is just dry enough to burn properly. In light of this I am making a pickle jar vape to use it even sooner! But cured jarred weed is such a pleasure to smoke.

I have thought this too, but then got to thinking maybe it's just that different high. Maybe our tolerances are low to that specific strain because it's new to us, and as it cures were smoking more of it and tolerances are building? Just a thought as im no scientist.
Didn't read the last sentence of your post until now, but I agree for sure.

Read a paper on cannabinoids for god sake. This is why this site is so whack. No one researches anything, ever. 'The entourag effect' by russo. Google it and read it.

if you're such a know it all that has already done all the research, than why don't you go and start your own site for only people of your caliber, and leave us lazy idiots to ourselves, your Highness.

lol. I love internet scientists.

THC has a half life from my understanding.....starts to degrade from the moment you pick it....

now the flavonoids and turpenes seem to get better with a little proper cure time...ever notice the flavor seems a little better as time goes on...

nothing more potent tho than some fresh erb!:joint:

Considering that marijuana is a schedule 1 drug in the United States, do you feel that this "paper on canabinoids" will be a peer reviewed scientific study, or some anecdotal evidence from some weed growers?

Instead of being a dick (again), maybe you could link us to some of your suggested reading material.

curing does make it more potent, but i cant for the life of me find the research that provides a much better answer to why. theres a bunch of chemical reactions still going on, thats why you cure in to begin with. the flavanoids and other shit like that come out, the rest of the chlorophyll gets used up. honestly the highest thc value doesnt mean its gonna be stronger per say, a lot of the time this may be true tho, depends on the strain and what your looking for it to do. have you ever dried any to fast? smokes like shit, taste like shit, even with a good cure. or smoked some knock out bud only to find out its only 12% thc?? Durban Poison anyone?? if you dont believe it then smoke some freshly dried bud, then wait a week and do it again and so on out to at least a two month cure. i guarantee it gets more potent. at some point tho even in a jar it will go down hill in potentcy and flavor, but there are other methods to long storage you can look into. theres tons of ways to cure too, you might be surprised, i know i was.

Light Degrades the THC from my research when curing. So the darker the area, the less degradation one should experience.
