Curing

Still on my fist grow but second plant came out pretty good but now I'm on the curing stage, it's been hang drying for about a week I'm thinking about putting it in a brown paper bag for a day or two then jarring them would that help? & how often should i burp and for how long?

most common newbie mistake curing is drying too long...if you dont have the feel for it and you go too long you missed your window for the cure, better to jar it a bit early and have to babysit it for a couple days then to accidentally ruin your crop! i only dry for 3 days but i trim wet since that is the easiest way and gets rid of some of that nasty smell you get otherwise and the need to dry for a week..anyway i dry three days as small workable branches ive already trimmed then they get cut down to buds and double checked for missed trim and into the jar..i check them every 6ish hours at first and usually leave the jar open and dumped over emptied a bit for maybe 4 ish hours for the first few days you have to be attentive and keep feeling them soon as they are a bit crisp outside back in the jar they go and leave it sealed another 12 or so hours or until you wake up, always check it before bed and when you wake up to make sure no adjustments are needed.. this is repeated for less time over and over throughout about 5 days until it gets to the point where all you have to do is open it once a day and comb the buds around with your hand and maybe leave it open a half hour or so..then once you open it and notice the stems will snap nicely and it doesnt seem to be getting quite moist on the outside anymore while in the jar, it can just be left sealed! alternatively you can get this meter thing some people use and get the jars to exactly 65% humidity and at that point you know they wont mold and are also curing i dont do all that though ive learned to feel it out well and i really dont think its necesary

You will master the technique after a few tries as theres different ways all will tell you but I usually cut all leaves off buds when I thank her and pull her up then let buds dry (depending on your current weather) anywhere from 3-7 days then put into jars and burp for next month. first week atleast 5-6 times a day and leave jars open a minute, second week 3-4 times a day for a minute or so (you will tell when you open jars if its too wet for you or not and just slightly adjust to suit ). 3rd week 3 times a day for minute again and last week 1-2 a day until your happy with whats inside :)

i agree with everything he said ^ except the idea of opening many times for less time...the point is to deplete the carbon dioxide in the jar and so you should have the jars full as possible and only be opening them to let out moisture so you should let out as much moisture as you need to be able to close the jars as long as possible before needing to let out more moisture..the point of opening the jars is not air circulation it is moisture reduction!

There are a lot of good curing threads on RIU, find them and pick a method that you think will work best for you. Glass jars with rubber seals, a few hygrometers and Boveda 62 Humidipaks will make curing much more effective. This is the most important phase of your grow, the quality of your product has a lot to do with how you cure, do it right.

i was having a trouble with my first grow. the smoke was very powerful but the taste was lousy, kind of like hay or grass. i used this https://www.rollitup.org/harvesting-curing/514841-perfect-cure-every-time.html and after longer than i really had hoped to cure, my buds are even stronger and tasty. i am in my third month on some thai and it is tasting similar to what i remember from my youth in the 70's. i know 3 months is a long time but i have been smoking it all along. i just have multiple mason jars. the ones i followed the perfect cure method with are really sweet.

I am trying out the Boveda packs and have to say that so far I am impressed. I am still burping for the few days, but then the Boveda seems to be taking over.

My question... how much do you all pack your jars. I use the 32 oz wide mouth ball jars and am curious if people pack them fairly tight or not very full...
