cxa3050 for $ 8.50?? thought I was dreaming...

I don't care if they are a shit bin or not the highest CRI, I had to grab a few...it's the lowest price I've ever seen them go for

..so, I have been doing the homework on LED's and following the technology the last year or two...its so amazing the constantly improving options for DIY inclined folks and the ever lowering prices for COB's...I've been window shopping components for awhile and have never really found prices that made me bite...until a week or two ago I came across a cxa3050 2700K on Amazon for $17 and some change...thought that was pretty cheap so I bought the one....then a couple days later while I was looking at various sites sourcing parts and came across cxa3050-0000-000N00W230F FOR $8.50 each!!?!? so I order 8 of those, I also got 4 x 4000K @ $13.50 each..when I saw those prices I had to jump...
.I was thinking bout picking up a vero 29 5000K to the mix, not decided on that yet...as of now I have:

1 cxa3050 2700K
4 " " 3000K
4 " " 4000K

I'm thinking of biting the OPTIC commercial units, using an old bank safety deposit box as the housing for my build. the one I'm eyeing is roughly 22"x10"x3" (see pic)... what I would like to know is what would be the best configuration for a light with this housing with the 2700K, 2 x 3000K, 2 x 4000 and also maybe one with the 5000K in there too (may try a vero 29, I wanna experiment with these, but have yet to find them for the absurdly low price I found the 3050 3000K for...(850 pennies!?!...how many lumens per penny if I...) bad joke... anyway,

my plans are to make a unit with 4 x 3000K only, and a mixed one...

also, does anybody out there have a recommendation for a lense/holder/reflector setup???

Interesting find. I punched it into the spreadsheet and you are correct it is lower than the lowest bin in the PDF, BUT at that price might still be competitive/PAR W.

For comparison, similarly priced Vero 13 V2.0:

So to match them up by the cost column, in the $1.60/PAR W range, $0.85 range and $0.60 range the CXA comes out slightly ahead by about 2% in each case.

ok found them on Newark.com? So these should out perform my Chinese 100w cob right? Anyone know a happy middle ground for wattage per cob and efficient output? Ppl tell me 66watts per cob is wasteful as far as light out put vs heat but I am water cooled and run cool.?

According to SupraSPL's chart above running them soft at 350-700ma would give you the best efficiency at around 12-25 watts a piece respectively. The higher you run them the less efficient they become and output more heat then running them lower.

To elaborate a little more or your question of the cheap Chinese junk. Yes they will outperform them all day long in efficiency and you can actually look at a datasheet for the Cree COB's unlike most China junk and even if they supplied a datasheet I wouldn't believe it lol obviously they won't put out 100 watts so you do need more of them but in the end you way ahead with Cree (or Bridgelux)

sorry, I hadn't checked thus in a min....yes, newark is where I found them...

And this is the nail in the coffin for T5.

204 dollars for 424W of 32% efficient cobs.
170 dollars for 3 HLG-C
100 bucks for heat sinks
26 for wires, connectors, etc
--------------------------------
500 bucks for a 424W lamp that whoops T5

gg T5s (RIP)

In the very near future, it's likely that a 40% efficient lamp will cost less to setup than DE HPS.

Edit: I think it's still worth it to go cxb still just for the lower Vf. It would mean only needing 2 HLG-C instead of 3. That'd likely save more than cheaper cobs. Also, why not replace T5s with a 60% efficient lamp and totally blow them out of the water. I think it's worth the price for veg.

guess I should've listened to some folks more in the know.......found my china junk fizzling out after 4months not completely but strips of leds on the cobs were dead......looks like as they failed it pushed the others harder and they started to go too I had them at 62-66w a p.i have spares but I think I'm gonna spread the power out this time........and after a few harvest I will invest in Cree

I scored 6 of these! Replaced my burnt cobs w spares and dropped my wattage to 40-50w per cob instead of 66w +........ They made it thru 1 1/2 runs.

can anybody PLEASE point me in the direction of a good driver to power 4 of my cxa3050's @ 50w each....preferably one that dims!

Bonjour
Why do you want me to call you???(call-me-Lj...)lol...
I believe you can run 4 on a hlg-185-1050 a or b,depend on what you want.
Have a great day...LJ!

You will need about 148V for the four COB's and the HLG-185H will supply 143V so it will derate itself.

am about to by drivers and I'm confused..I bought my 3050's from newark, their site specs say is 42V, but I see other sites its 36V....is there something I'm missing? I really am not trying to buy the wrong shit.....
thanks.
