CXB-8 Grow Journal

Temp stays 78-82 w/ fan gently blowing into the housing, into the grow space.

Humidity approx 40-52%.

Never seen temp over 82, never seen humidity over 52%.

Seen serious growth in the 'A few days ago' file & 'pre trim' file. Trimmed prob 2 lbs of fan leaves.

Upped the nutes to 2x--or later veg growth bringing ppm to around 1100 since there was the pH mishap.

Some are lagging, some are doing wonderful.

Purp stems prob cause of weather and genetics.

Using cal mag, flora veg, rhizo blast, water conditioner for chlorine, pH down, & terpinator of all things. All standard measurements applied (at this time).

Gonna flip cycle on the first. Light is highest it will go. So gonna drop the tray to the floor expecting heights to double and some will need to be weaved through the trellis cause they'll outgrow everyone else.

Trellis to be added after I get a sense of heights into flowering since I don't know the genetics.

Highest plant is in the middle of the middle under the middle of the hood. Total height now (after bending over tops) is 23". In fact, part of the canopy averages 23-24". I would usually flip at 18"-22" but due to the pH issue I held out.

Cxb-8 ~440 watts cxb3590 CD 56% efficient.

nice grow and what size duct fits the CXB8 light?

It might draw 440, but to each COB you are only getting about 196-200 actual wattage from the lighting. This is normal. Not sure why you chose to advertise it as 450w draw @ 120v instead of 400w of actual lighting. IMO, the way people look at the grow lighting world will never change till we get rid of the dishonest transparency.

People want to know actual wattage draw. There can be a big difference between fixtures due to driver efficiency. It's kinda like a 1000 hps ballast. It will state 1060 or whatever in the actual wattage draw @ whatever volts. Also the fixture will use less wattage @ 220vac

Ok, so include actual draw and the delivered wattage. Not all users are knowledgeable on the subject like we are and will believe that the "draw" is the actual wattage.

Just my opinion of course, what do I know other than it seems that everyone who is building lights now also complained at one time or another about other companies shady practices yet they continue with the shadiness. And damn that price is steep!

Its going to cost me $1000 to build 3 of those lights. Granted it wont have a case, but still.

Not sure where you get your cxb3590 CD but I pay more than that for the cobs themselves for 3 lights. Also remember that's msrp. Shop's need to make money to.

lawlz. 24 cxb3590 will run you at least $1200 from the cobs alone.

the craftsmanship and integration of these leds into an aircooled case is what makes this light so special. and exciting from my perspective.

too much data can be confusing for the average customer. Most light consumers still use "wattage" as their primary metric for choosing a product. Labeling a product by dissipation from the wall is the industry standard for now.

And you cannot convince me that you are paying more than $1000 for 12 CXB3590 CD...... I understand shops need to make money. You have R&D, build time, and profits. But your actual cost to build one of those is probably about $700 as I know you are buying bulk and getting discounts.

You stated you could build 3 of those lights which is 24 cobs????? You might have hit the pipe of some of that dank your growing a few more times than you think..... There are 8 cobs per light.


Also discounts on those cobs are not that great honestly. It costs me more than 700 in parts promise. Also I don't usually like to talk shop prices but most expect a 40% markup. So if it costs 1000 to build it would be 1400 no profit so really figure that up. Also look at what most shops push for my price. Kind k5xl1000 heliospectra is an ok light but at 1900 bucks. Between bml spyder 600 and 1000 with higher PPF than both. Look at black dog prices...... I'll put cxb-8 up against there new 800 watt actual draw unit and it is over 2k as well. I don't really like making comparisons though lol.

Errr, sorry. I was thinking about 1 of your lights being 2 lights of mine. I mean I could build 3, which would be 1 1/2

But still, you can build what you are doing for $800 without big discounts.... No R&D is worth the cost. Just my opinion. And I have shit talked all of those premade lamps.

You are sure entitled to your opinion but in order to sell in shops I can't build them myself. So shipping cost and assembly cost pushes the price higher. Also remember msrp. Also there will be warrenty claims. Advertising costs. The list goes on. That is why if you pay attention I help anyone I can on there diy projects. Also look at the discount code and free shipping...... Which will have to end soon though.

He's entitled to his opinion and therefore I'm entitled to mine;

It's a Damn fine light with top quality components that will make the buyer A Flippin' FORTUNE if he uses it well and diligently, so much so that it's well worth twice what you're asking based on expected ROI alone.

Everybody's a whiner about prices until they start their own business. Then they find out about cost real fast!

You sell these things for a reasonable price, one that covers costs including your time and warrant work, insurance, etc etc and the market will decide. There is always a niche for a quality product at a reasonable piece.

Yes of course someone can always DIY something cheaper... do we do that with everything? I know of no one who built their own cellphone.

I like your business model. The only thing it needs is time to work.

I know that DIY is always cheaper, no matter, but I would love a COB light that comes in at a reasonable price. Hell, I might even start purchasing them. But for $1000 more than the cost of parts?, no thanks.

And I am wondering, why arent you building them yourself? Im very curious as to why so many people are having them built across seas. You said you CANT build them yourself, any reason why?

Of course we could diy something as efficient for 700 $ but not with the same style...a finished product!
No compare (exept for a few but they all went commercial now...lol!)

I can sell them to you direct but not through any distributor by law if I build them myself.

I guess it it easier to let people who have autorisation to build the light!
I guess if I build light in EU it will be a pita because you create it...but if you ask to a chinese factory who have EC accreditation to sell cob light to build the same and send it to you you are a reseller and less less problems!
