Dark areas on clone leaves...?? Any ideas?

Howdy y'all. I am starting to believe I am the only grower in the world who can't get his clones to work.

This most recent batch I cut sterile, scraped the sides of the cuts, made a cross split on the tips, dipped in gel, placed in a solution of Clonex, appropriate pH, fired up the clonebox and set the lid on top.

4 days later, I have dark spots on my leaves where the leaf finger meets the stem.
This happened with my last batch of clones and I lost them all.

Any ideas?

lemme tell ya my deal on clones..'

Some strains clone EASILY.. no issues at all..

Some clone tough!! I have a very very high success rate on clones, and the strain I am cloning now is hellish, they almost completely die before BAM they take off... As long as I get root before all the leaves die, i'm golden..

Develope a good system and stick with it..

I use rootech and botanicaire's cloning nutes.. I swear by both.. I also have a 75 site cloner, and use good ole tapwater (seems fine for cloning), I use RO in all other applications...

I wouldn't worry about the spots if you're getting roots, dont panic, stay with them and they should morph into healthy plants..

Whats your current process?

OK. I feel sheepish. I know it's hard to tell what's up without photos. This was my 3rd failure with clones and I had had it! I ripped them out and threw them away.

Perhaps a description? I know it's not the same but simply put the area where the stem and leaf fingers meet along the first 3-10 mm of the leaf looked withered and dark and had the texture and look of a leafy green vegetable (lettuce or spinach?) after it had been steamed.

The ends of the cuts were slimey and very dark where there had been damage to the tip (the scrapes along the sides, the split area on the end) and zero little pre-root bumps. I got as far as roots my first time but the same thing happened to them too.

Here is what I am doing. Filling my clone box with water and Clonex mixed as directed. pH-ed water as instructed on bottle of Clonex. Cuts scraped a bit on the side, split on the ends and dipped in rotting hormone gel. Inserted into neoprene disks and left in place.

The past 3 times, I have placed the humidity dome over the top removing it several times a day to let them breathe. I am leaving the lid off this time at the advice of Mr. Hydro from my local shop. He says the humidity isn't an issue here and I shouldn't need the dome and it is most likely exacerbating my problem.

Round 4 is started and I am confident that these will take. The cuts are from plants that are much further along than before and all the stems are a bit thicker and more hearty feeling.

If this *does* happen again to me, I will MOST DEF take some photos.

You may just have a finicky strain.. some clone very easily and others will give ya fits.. check out you tube on cloning, theres plenty of good vids.. You sound like you are doing things correctly but next time try and give them a little more time before tossing.. Mine often will look as tho they are on deaths doorstep before they take off and morph into healthy little girls (those are my more difficult strains to clone).. but once you have it down, its pretty easy..

I can't say for sure but perhaps some kind of fungus. Are you cleaning everything very well every time you begin again? Are you dipping your scalpel in alcohol? I agree you should leave the dome off.
