No need when using auto pots dude the plant up takes trough the bottom end,root mass is about 3 inch thick in the tray.,same method used in the exodus grow,I could grow a plant 8 ft tall in a pot half this size has long has the plant is getting plenty of air via pump to roots and are in a nice amount of nutrients,The pot serves one purpose at this point to hold the plant up wise ,the medium is bone dry all feed is done through ball cock,drinking 6 ltr a day
