Death of a Strain

I know this has been a hot button issue in the past but I want to share my experience.

I have been working with a strain that is known to be over five years old. Recently, the strain has just started to peter out. The clones do grow fine once well rooted and there is no decrease in potency although bud density has been seeming sparse. Although i can't say for sure why.

The main issue is that the cuttings are becoming quite difficult to root taking several weeks and with a low survival rate. At first, i thought this was mild Pythium that was causing it but I doubt this is correct. i have a buddy who is working with the same strain and he has been experiencing the same thing.

The only thing i can think of is that after cuttings from cuttings from cuttings, the strain has ran its course.

I know people are dealing with old strains that are doing fine. Perhaps some strains are longer lived than others or perhaps they have produced fewer generations from longer veg times. I don't have all the answers. This is just what I am experiencing with this one strain.

I hate to see her go because she was a world class strain - time to move on.

sounds like its looseing its vigor!! see that doesnt happen from seed no matter how many years go by. if you can germ them they will be dank. try to replace the mother with another clone of the same plant and grow her out to see if that helps..if not then yea that strain may be dead. but its only 5 years old huh? thats not that old i have herd of mothers kept over 10 years and still produce consistent and potent clones...

Many generations of clones have been taken. And, I have produced good healthy mothers and taken clones from them still to find they are slow to take root and rejuvenate. Once they do they seem to grow fine but getting them there is a hassle.

I might try to pollinate one if I can get my hands on some good pollen. Otherwise, I guess it is time to move on.

stress her to fuck until she pops her own seeds and germ them

its like inbreeding. add some males and get more good parts to it. all the bad things are passed down and add up more then the good things. add some fresh males instead of cloning. see if it works , get back to me on that

A little trick to try is to put your mom outdoors for a week or two. I have heard from a few friends that doing this reinvigorates the mama. I have also seen posts from a few well known breeders who suggest the same thing.

Give it a try, can't hurt.

why not it's a living thing
and with the way we clone, lets face it, its not getting any younger
the best idea is to try to self it and produce young from it
but the off spring may end up with downs. (LOL, bad joke)

I might just try that. Plus, I might try a cross with some Critical Mass.

came across this and wondered how this ended up turning out for you-
i also have an old, hard to clone strain, and am thinking about crossing it back to itself for seed

Its probably a plant disease
pop seeds in H2O2 to sterilize
dont contaminate
you might be lucky
