decided to try led grow lghts

I purchased 4 led grow lights 300 watt for a 50 site aeroponic system wondering if there is a way you can over light your plants because in hightimes mag feb 2008 the 80 watt led ufo light was as powerful as a 400 watt hps so if my math is right it would be lke having 6000 watt hps thats 6 1000 watt hps on a 50 site aeroponic system witch im going to be running the misters 24/7 with AN nutes full line program

anybody have a guess what my yield will be dry harvest

an 80 watt LED is not going to be as powerful as a 400W hps. no wonder i dont read crap like high times

its a gimick, take it back and get a good hps or mh

the guys at my hydro shop did a test grow with tomato plants to see if it was worth selling. They hate the thing! they said it can't compare to hid's. Also they decided not to sell it, so that should tell you something.

LED's are shit dude. Look at the grow journals. and jusus christ, read some informaton beforehand.I hope you can get your money back.

ok for one the grow juornals that people use led are using 80 to 90 watt leds of course they are not going to get a yield i have 1200 watts of led's i think thats a little better then 80 watt 120 dollars units compare to the 300 watt 800 dollars units i have

ull find ur plants extremely streched and they will not yield anything close to a CFL grow. no offense to cfl growers btw.

i think we all know:

LEDs = shit
CFLs = ok / decent, can work very well
HPS = the shit. top dog.

do they list the spectrum of the led's and the lumens? I also wonder the CRI....I dont think they produce useable light for the plant...like a good MH or HPS or hell even a CFL all produce ultraviolet light and I'm not sure but do LED's? look forward to see how they work for you

Yeah keep posted on the LED progress, i'm curious to see what kind of results you would get. I've never heard anyone consider LED for growing before..

im not sure but i dont even think LEDs are more lumen's/watt efficient
i think LEDs are at about 70 Lu/W
and HPS are at about 120 Lu/W

--please correct me if im wrong--

so i really hope you can get your money back on those man :peace:

The things is yes HID lights do yield a lot more but are not as efficient with the yield. Check out this vid YouTube - LED Marijuana Grow it shows how yes the HPS did yield 91 grams and the LED only 27, but the GPW is higher for the LED. So if the LEDs were cheaper than HPS then yes they would be better, but since they are several times more expensive than HPS not really that practical if you want big yields.

plus you would need three time the amount of leds given those numbers.

Although Leds for the moment are not really worth the time (i think coming from a simple man) They do sho promise IN THE FUTURE. But for the moment I chose Flouresents for a grow on a budget. I am new and think this is fine for now. But there was a time were the only thing you could get to grow under them was a seedling. Technolegy progesses so will light sources. But they mut prove reliable before people should spent there hard earn money on them. Leave the experements to the sceintist. Thats what they are paid to do.... At least in my opinion.
