Detaching Ballist?

Hello, I have 12 of these 400 watt HPS high bay lights, and I'm wondering what is a safe way to detach the ballist from them.

Can I just cut the white and black wires shown in the picture and solder on longer wires and mount the fixture on a chain to the ceiling and mount the rest somewhere else?

I'm only going to use 1 light, two at most, I just got 12 because they only came in bulk where I bought them and were very cheap.

Thanks for any advice you can give me, as I don't want to burn my house down!

dude... i have the same one and was wondering the exact same thing ...i hope somone responds soon!!!! lol

yes cut the wires and use some new 12g wire to extend the lamp to where you want it...do not solder use twistloc connectors and electrical tape...

yeah thats how lots of big ass opps do it, its way cheaper to buy just the components then wire them up yourself, those hoods are going to give you trouble though, you will get all the light focused on a small area so watch out

I was wondering about the light focused on a small area also, but I hope it's not going to be a problem since my grow space is only 5' wide x 3' deep and 8' tall. I'm going to try and hook it up today, so we'll see.

I'll post pictures when it's all setup.
