Difference Between Same Strain from Various Breeders?

So this is something I've been wondering for a while. Might be a noob question so bear with me.

For example, I have some "Sour Diesel Auto" seeds I purchased on eBay. No idea who the original breeder/source was, but this strain appears to come from numerous sources & goes by different names despite having the same parents (Sour Diesel + Haze 2.0 + Ruderalis). "Dinafem" is one of the creators, but so is "Zamnesia". And then there's a strain called Sour Diesel Haze by "Seedsman" that's the exact same autoflower with the same parents but has the word "Haze" in the name.

Are there any real differences between these seeds/plants? If they all come from the same parents & have the same name, WTF is the difference? Are certain breeders (if that's what these people even call themselves) more reputable than others, or is it just a crapshoot?

Also, I see people on some threads asking where they can find the "real" Sour Diesel/Blueberry/Lamb's Bread/Strawberry Cough as if what's being sold as these strains aren't in fact the real deal. Just...what? Why am I paying the big bucks for something labeled "Columbian Gold OG" if it's in fact something different or a knockoff? Isn't that false advertising?

Either consumers are full of shit or the cannabis industry is. One of the two. I'm starting to feel disillusioned the longer I lurk & learn about the lack of regulation & quality control. Hope I'm wrong.

Color me confused. :dunce:

Interesting, thanks. This is disappointing for sure. Especially for a purist like me with OCD, lol. I want so badly for strain names & classifications to have meaning & reliability. Can't wait for the day when all dispensaries show full cannabinoid/terpene content on every product they sell. Only then will we REALLY know wtf we are getting IMO.

If you want trustworthy genetics, you gotta pay for it. Clones and mothers is generally the route to go.

IN THEORY... Each breeder is creating 'their' strain by breeding the same parents, BUT... they are not the same plants. Unless they are taken from the exact same plant, you are gonna see different phenos, different traits, etc. But like most say, the same seeds exist today that existed 10 years ago, when there was 1/5 as many breeders.... they just bulk purchased, and repackaged.

And besides... you are growing auto's... who cares? Get picky when you get that ruderalis outta there...

Even growing the same line of clones over and over, there can be MASSIVE differences in the actual way the plant expresses its genes depending on environmental and nutritional variables.

Pollen chuckers can make perfectly good F1 feminized seed.
To breed a stable reg line takes a very large operation.

In other words....99% of the so called strain today are just glorified bagweed.

It would be nice if these so called breeders would actually list their breeding system or genealogy of the strain. Like other serious breeding program.

The big seed companies/breeders are just in it for the money like greedy cash croppers crying because legality is causing massive price drops in some areas.

You need to seek out strains that some of the old time breeders have been putting out for years and not buy the mogeralized bastard seeds with the alluring names. Jordan of the Islands has some nice strains

Check out Strainly.io. Good place to find all sorts of strains or just google "land race" or "heirloom pot seeds".

They're out there. Somewhere.

Good luck.

:peace:
