Differences between outermost vs. interior buds on large trees

When growing huge multi-pound trees outside, do the buds on the inside that receive indirect/diffused light grow inferior to the ones with most direct sun exposure?

Any differences in potency, density, appearance, smell or any other qualities?

Yes they do grow bigger and are stronger similar to artificial light only diff is the summer sun can penetrate thru the plant canopy a lot more than indoor, giving you large buds down low as well as the tops.

Ok cool, so all of the plant is respectable due to the sun's intensity, but the outer ones are even better.

Does that outermost exposure to the sun have any correlation with the brownish appearance common to outdoor buds?

Your outermost buds are indeed getting more UV rays than the inner. Also your outermost buds are the terminal leaders of said branch and will always be in prime sun light which is why they will be ripe before the rest of the plant. Some growers will harvest in sections allowing the rest of the inner buds a chance to recieve the energy once occupied by the tops or colas. They to will swell and ripen just like the harvested colas did. A technique that works well for an overall maturation of the entire plant is to pluck down all the fan leaves/shade water leafs to allow more light into the canopy a few weeks before harvest. In reality by harvest time you ideally want to have removed nearly all of the larger leaf. If done at the right time before harvest this will ripen up the plant on the whole and allow better air movement which is almost necissary near harvest as mold is always a concern. Happy Growing :) 1BMM
