i'm on the edge. do i keep it a hobby? or do i take it to the legal limit? i like my soil. used it for over 15 years now. does hydro always yield more? i've never grown hydro? the whole water everywhere scares me. then i need reservoirs and pumps and drains and a water supply. i'd have to change my whole operation. is it worth it in the end? if i decide to go to the limit, is hydro the best for indoor yield? or can i do just as well in soil?

dirt or hydro?

I watch that dutch movie and in it the dutch say that they done both and found that soil is the best quality and prefer the soil over hydro. The hydro is faster and the movie was old and I'm sure there have been several improvements.

I'm just getting started and have been watching and reading tons

i'm sold on the natural-ness of soil and organically grown things. i saw this great site... Alaska Bountea Organic Compost Tea System - Organic soil amendments for soil fertility, increased yield of organic fruits, vegetables and flowers for organic gardening

it talks about how the soil being alive and healthy is the key to the biggest, strongest pest free plants. things that chemicals of hydro can't match. the grower who developed this tea in alaska has like 9 guiness world records for the biggest friuts and vegetables.

something about learning and using the natural earth appeals to me.

Hey FDD.... I to have only ever grown in soil. But many of my friend and family swear Hydro is the best. I have seen both results first hand from same seed's and prefer the taste of dirt to chem. But I am getting lured in to the speed of the hydro. And have now been buying pumps and lines.
So soon I am going to need some advise on growing.
But the difference is I know how to read GrowFAQ.
Unlike some of the New people. You guy's know who you are

we call it "pre-tindo" where i grew up! i have siad before i have had a bag and swore it was soil grown till i was proved wrong. but i think not anyone can get those results. my thought however is, why not do both? my next grow i am going to use sunshine #4 and perlite and to feed i am going to make a tea out of ocean forest and other things and concentrate it then dillute it. i figure why not use organic teas in hydro instead of chemical nutes? is there an issue i have not foreseen? wouldnt our hydro taste like soil but have the added benefits of a quicker start to finish time?>

im an inexperienced grower who uses soil because it is simpler both to setup and maintain. more pumps cable etc seems to complicate things. it seems to me soil saves alot of 'Hassle' especially for inexperienced growers who are not sure of what todo when things go wrong. When i properly understand what my plants are doing how they grow and what they need, i may move onto a hydro setup simply beause EC levels ,PH levels ,Feeders and stuff intrigue me and plus i want to know everything!!

That poll is incredible.
wow. i had no idea that was the distribution. mind blowing. 27,000 to ten! hahaha

well, speaking as a minority,

I have no idea why you guys grow inside in soil. leave that shit outside, you came inside for a reason:

To control variables. You're performing a science experiment, not a spiritual ritual. you're growing medicine, not fairy dust.

And what does an enthusiast do with his experiments? He tries always to do them better. The hydro teas are a great idea. I would definitely like to try that.

Hydro is incredible... cause there is little mystery what is happening with the root mass. and you can tweak it, and figure out how to make it perform better.

I guess only ten of us feel that way...

But i would love to have a taste challenge between my hydro and a soil grow, hell i'll probably just try it myself... it's way easier to grow in soil right?

Someone find me a cup winning grower that does hydro.

I can't argue efficiency/speed etc, but when looking for the utmost quality, dirt is still king.
