Stale tap water is the only way to fly under most scenarios.Stale meaning setting about 24 hours with the lid off the water bucket before using so as to dissipate the chlorine gas normally present in municipal water supplies. Goes faster with a bubbler or agitation supposedly. Now have seen folks advocating some hydro growing strategies using RO (reverse osmosis) water which would only be one notch under distilled water on the purity scale if the RO unit has a good membrane and is working properly etc. Buying and using distilled water would make for some high priced dope unless a person had a solar set up or similar to where they got it free. $1 a gallon.

i am doing 4 plants, they are flowering taking no more than a half gallon every other day or so.

not expensive.

Bubbling tap water only gets rid of chlorine. Some tap water contains chloremine, which is also bad for micro life, and cannot be bubbled out.

Reverse Osmosis (r/o) water is cheaper and only slightly less pure than distilled. I use it with no problems whatsoever. If you want to learn more about water, click on the link in my sig.

I have strictly used Distilled water for some time. Its $1 A GALLON at any super market. I have never had any problems with the water and I feed it about every three-four days at the rate of 3/4 gallon per 5 gallon bucket. I got into lab analysis a while back and sent some of my used soil to labs to test for micro life....To make a long story short its was very nice results and certianly better than tap water. Well water can be beneficial if you can get it. Tap water, even when set out can still contain chlorimine.

If it's free then by all means use it! You may need to get some cal-mag though.

Whats cal-mag, and whats it used for?

calcium, iron, and magnesium supplement..not found in distilled water especially if you are hydro, most people use botinacare calmag..you might not have a prob thou if your in soil and have good nute system

Hey guys, sorry for this slight hijacking of thread. I was just wondering if anybody had trouble in getting a acurate pH reading on distilled water.
I have a pretty discent Milwauke pH meter and when I put it in distilled water it starts at 8.0 and with every movement it goes down by one point. Continouesly to 0... sory again for the Hijack.
