DIY Instructions

Cheap hydroponic system, ready made kits if you can't be bothered!

List of Parts
Large bucket (20 litres+) and lid.
4 80mm net pots.
MaxiJet 500 water pump.
14cm of Flexible 13mm tubing.
26cm of 13mm rigid supply line.
Three green base rotation sprinklers.
One 13mm end stop.
Two 13mm elbows.
27cm of 13mm clear tubing.
One 13mm grommet.
Tools Required
4mm hole punch for inserting the sprayers.
16mm hole saw for the water level tube.
Hole saw (80mm) or sharp blade for cutting the holes in the lid.
Warm water to heat tubing, if required.

Construction
1. Preparing the bucket: First take the 16mm hole saw and cutt a hole in the bucket about 1.5-2cm from the base. This hole can be anywhere around the base but drilling it under the handle keeps everything neat. Take one 13mm elbow and push it all the way into the clear tubing, this will be the water level tube. Insert the grommet into the hole at the buttom of the bucket then insert the elbow fitting on the water level tube into the grommet. Make sure the fitting is pushed in firmly and is secure. Now cut a small notch in the rim of the bucket the width of the pumps power cable and about a centimetre in depth. Cut the required amount of holes in the lid using either a hole saw or sharp blade (get Mummy to help if you need).

2. Assembling the sprinkler line: Take the lengths of flexible tubing and rigid supply line and push them firmly onto the second elbow fitting (C). The end stop should then be pushed into the open end of the rigid supply line . Three holes are then punched into the rigid supply line. One at either end and one in the centre. Take the green base sprinklers and firmly push them into these holes as far as they will go.

3. Final construction: Place the pump in the bucket half way between the centre and the side. Secure the suction cups and angle the pump outlet slightly towards the side of the bucket. Now place the open end of the sprayer line onto the pump outlet. Adjust the rotation angle of the pump outlet to straighten the level of the sprayers.

;-)

4. Operation: Fill the bucket half way up with water and turn on the pump. The sprayers will start spraying.

I made one with a storage bin wrapped in reflective tape. You know the ones you find in £1 shops...
