Hey my do it yourself- ers,
I am in the process of "making" my own led light and it might just knock your socks off how easy and how "cheap" the cost is. Now with all that said I'll prob have some haters or people jumping in with all kinds of lumens per watt, efficiency, and all that mumbo jumbo...but i'll stop you right now and say Cococola don't care lol. So its this simple hence the KISS in the title. I bought two reflectors from cfl-growlight.com , just the reflectors with no bulbs for a greattt cost. Cause I'm no electrical expert, so making one was out of the question , to make that clear lol. These are the units

Now, i said to myself hmmmmm I don't want a million cfl bulbs with all that heat, because it takes 28 bulbs for two for these reflectors. Sooooo when I saw captainmorgans results under cree globe leds I said bingoooo. And I'll tell you I went to home depot and the 9.5 watt 2700k was on sale for 7.97 a pop...while unfortunately the 5000k 9.5 watt were 13.97.

Easy math but to sum it all up it is costing me $467 TOTAL for two reflectors with 133 watts actual draw each, for a total of 266 watts of mixed cree spectrum goodness along with 22,400 lumens which is 84 lumens per watt which isn't too shabby (To me). Personally that is pretty damn cheap, because each reflector is 36"x20" so two of them will easily cover a 4x4ft area perfectly.
While I'm not going to sit here and compare and banter about these lights vs a xgs-190 from area51 but hey I'm getting way more coverage and watts for less than one of the area 51 panels. Not trashing that light because its obviously got better penetration and what not but I only need them for veg and I wanted to share with you guys my idea.
