I'm looking into do a DIY LED system. I already have a DIY LED system over my salt water tank which I replaced a 150 MH with 24 3w LEDS and I must say the growth Im getting from my corals is amazing. I'm looking to replace my 400 HPS. There is not to much info on grow LEDS yet. Can someone help me with what color spectrums I want to use? Everytime I see a GROW LED there are alots of purples and reds?

When dealing with the actual spectrum of LED's, they don't use the Kelvin Color Scale (like 3000k). LED's are designated according to the wavelength of light they emit, measured in nano-meters (nm).

The reason LED grow lights appear purple is because of the mixture of "Red" and "Blue" LED elements to achieve the best PAR value.

There is still some debate as to how many "shades" of red and blue should be used, precisely which wavelengthes should be mixed and in what ratio they should be used. It would be interesting to see a good thread develope here with some knowlegable input on the subject.
