Do autos require less water?

Currently have an outside grow going...

Having just repotted them at 4 weeks a number of plants, the BETTER plants were almost dry, showing very healthy root system. There were a few plants that had 'retained' water in the pots (Yes, they received the same amount of water) and showed very weak root system...

I know that it's dependant on local climate etc but do autos take less water than 'normal' plants?

As it seems that drier plants are thriving how do I get nutrients into them without over watering?

Thanks in advance

If your plant has a healthy root system and isn't over watered then they should drink, auto or photoperiod have little if anything to do with it. Like you said the plants that had retained water had weaker root systems.

Watering less in big pots of transplanting up from smaller pots is a sure fire way to ensure nice healthy root balls. I haven't had to worry about over watering once this whole grow because I allowed my plants to take over their current pot before transplanting them.

Thanks.

Repotting into large pots I was able to see that the drier plants had far better root system than those that were 'damp'...

My concern is that I won't get enough nutrients into them if they are only watered once a week, at most!!!

What medium do you have them in?

If you want to get more nutrients to them the only solution is to give them less water more frequently.

For instance my plants will drink about a gallon each over the course of 2-3 days so I end up watering them 2-3 times a week. Now if I only gave them a half gallon each I bet they would be needing to be fed every day if not every other day.

They are in a 50/50 mix of high grade compost and organic leaf 'mulch'. It obviously suits them as, even after just two days they are showing signs of growth!

It is very humid here at the moment and the leaves are 'wet' from the humidity early morning, I just want to avoid over watering as the plants clearly prefer a drier existence!
